dangerous approaches and IAP charts

Featured Replies

I want to start flying some harder approaches but I can't find charts for them when there out of the US. IE, (tegucigalpa hoduras) anyone can recomend a approach and where I can find the charts.

;) Ya want some fun....fly into Sion via the ILS which starts at about 12,000 and takes you down (very quickly) to a localizer at a 15 degree angle to the RWY heading...and about 3/4-1 mile short of the threshold....whew...did that is almost zero visability between the mountains, and could not see a thing until about 750-1,000 FT...then had to maneuver very quickly to get lined up. Talk about trusting your instruments.Quite a rush.Laguano seemed easy in comparison ;)

Here we go! I found something you just might enjoy. I dont belive it comes with charts though. Serach the avsim file library under fs2004 for the following. "Doherty's Difficult & Dangerous Approaches" :) good luck.

? about aspen when I try to fly the VOR approach by the charts I think I'm coming in to high, even if I hit my DME points about 500' below what it say on the chart, When I hit the FAP it seem I have to make a rapid drop about 2000fpm and still come in to high I'm no way train in IAP, just learning for fun (Thanks to all who reply to this post) AC CS C-130

http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/137606.jpgWhat are you flying? And how fast? The airport is 7,820FAF is 12,200 ft 6.4 miles away, a 4,400 ft difference. That is a bit steep for a 'standard' approach, but still seems very 'doable'. Easy if you are bringing a Cessna in at 85 knots, quite different if you are going 150 knots +.....but it is 700 ft long which helps. There are charts that translate your distance/height from threshold into the speed you should be going. Try finding one (I've seen them on the internet, and probably have one saved somewhere) and checking against the speed of your typical approach....here is one:Rates of descent for 3
