3D joystick question.

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I want to ask if a 3D joystick is a good (or better) substitude for rudder pedals for FSX.

Does anybody use them? Comments?

Thanks,

Christos

I'm not simming at the moment, on a bit of a sabbatical. However, for years all I've used is an old Microsoft sidewinder. And that's with the most advanced flight sim add-on's out there.

So yes, a decent joystick with twist rudder axis can work admirably, as I say it always has for me.

Do rudder pedals add more realism? I guess so, but most definitely not essential.

Logitech also made one called "extreme 3d", being using one for ever and it works great. Just have to take it apart and add some grease once in a while as they get worn out after a bazzilion hours of flying. lol..

Free play is the issue on mine.  I still use it for Elite Dangerous and there'as about 3/4 inch free play. Still works great though. Pity MS don't make them anymore.
