NG FMS Load

Featured Replies

I'm sure I'll get flack for this because I've seen it before on a website or a readme text and can't find it but how do you get the NG FMS loaded on any of the 747 planes?

Can anyone tell me what the default one is?

Thanks.

Matt

This post makes absolutely no sense.

I just meant the NexGen FMS, it's just a different variation of the current format that I have downloaded.

The Next Generation is a type of Boeing 737.  So an NG Flight Management System would undoubtedly have severe incompatibility problems if installed on a 747

Many of the old 744s in service are getting the NG FMS installed.

I thought I saw somewhere where you could replace it in PMDG somehow.  Maybe not.

Ok, I see some snippets of info regarding the NextGen Honeywell FMS.  The PMDG FMC is integrated with the entire coded plane, and it appears that a few data sets would be invalid in FS anyhow.  Traffic management, ATC datalinks, ect...

I believe this version is standard on the 747-8, so perhaps we will see how PMDG makes it work.  Maybe they'll offer this as a choice to add to the -400 once the extension is released.

Have a hard time believing this when so many of them are being carted to the desert. At best a cargo operator might have one, and even then, I wouldn't call it very common.

Willing to bet that someone saw pics of the 748 we're working on and thought it was an option to refit the 744 with the new ones.

Full names - first and last - in the forum, please.

The entire BA 747 fleet has been re-equipped with the NG FMC, and I would be surprised if other operators weren't doing the same. Amongst other things I think support for Boeing Winds was one of BA's big drivers.

Note that the CDUs and the NDs are still the old CRTs with green writing etc; it's the boxes behind them driving the software that have been updated.

This makes more sense. Thanks.
