"My sincere condolences, LOL!  I raise a beer, to our mutual addiction!"....

Thank gawd for high yield, multi-T-capacity My Books, or whatever ...that's all, I can say!

Well, if you are measuring the size of the tile folder, please remember, that each z(x) download of jpg...sits in a separate folder one level down from the root of the tile folder, and that tile's ROOT folder's footprint size will grow holding them. The good thing about this, is that if you want to re-cut back to z16, all of the files are there...and there will be no further downloading, as the tile is re-cut.  Same for if you want to bump that tile back up to z17. If you decide upon one z rating or the other for that tile, or tiles, merely go into your tile folder, and delete any folder that holds the z-rating that you do not wish to use. That will bring your storage footprint down for that tile folder.

OK, thought they would be overwritten. Good to go now, thanks for your help! I am really concerned about not being able to get 3rd party airports working. Is it a learning curve Mitch or is the ortho going to be a problem for custom airports? Those airports are part of the whole equation and do not think I can get used to the 2D ones. Some of the stock 3D's are pretty good though.

As to your question,Bob, I'm still myself, a 'student'.  Sill learning the subtle in's and out's.  I have had a couple of airports, not 3rP 'paid for' but that were downloaded as freeware from the .org no longer show up. I do know that they are there, above the yOrhto_Overlay folder, and that I need to alter their files in such a way, or remove this or that, that might be conflicting (ortho for instance), with the generated tile content.  Nothing so far has not been able to be worked out, nothing. If something goes snorky,"..ok..that's not right...", in the first pass, a second think tank, or even third dose of patience will work it out for you.

That has been my experience so far....but, NOTHING could sway me, or defer me, from not flying over Ortho4XP generated scenery tiles. Nothing...EVEN if it meant that I had to give up an already purchased 3rP airport.  If that would happen..."oh, well...still have gained immeasurably in the long picture.." and would merely fly out of the generic Gate-way enhanced, XP11 one, or off of a dirt field, if I had to.  This total experience (and my gawd..what an experience it is!!!) is ALL about 30 feet and higher, through your flight.

I would not trade this visual experience at z17/19, even for if someone offered me a totally new, high tech packed computer, with the proviso, that I would have to delete all my so far, generated tiles.  I'd point to the front door, and say, "don let it hit your butt, as you leave..."

I now sim with Ortho, or I don't sim....(except for P3D v4.0 ONLY to salvage my hundred's (into thousand(s)) of dollars spent on 3rdP on the ESP platforms.). I'd bring that use of scenery into the new 64 bit, for sure, but am in no frantic hurry, to do so. Eventually will.) My new default first flight of any day, is going to be with XP11, or AF2 (with intended purchase and creation of myself, scenery packages, or tile creation).

Well I have a considerable amount invested also, but with xp and the scenery and the quality of the aircraft and of course the enthusiasm of the public for this sim, I think I will finally let go of P3D. I am planning on taking some counseling to help with my decision. I will let you know how this goes. Thanks again Mitch!

Okay, I've bitten the bullet.  Downloaded the latest version of Ortho4xp, watched the tutorial listed above, and the authors tutorials.  Have selected six tiles in Central Texas where I fly.  Set the ZL for 17, and drew a few ZL 19 polygons around the couple of airports I fly to a lot.  Set up a custom build directory to put these 6 tiles in a Central Texas folder.

Two questions.  What should should I use for central Texas?  GO2?  US2? BI?

Also, when I started the batch build with GO2, I got tons of messages saying "Presumably a missed cache...--> Uncheck 'Check against white textures'..."

Should I just let this keep going, or should I uncheck the box?

I'm assuming this is going to take a while, so I may not start it again until tonight.

Thanks.
