Photoreal vs FTX Global/openLC in P3D v4

Recommended Posts

Okay I just tried using photoreal scenery and for some reason, its sharp near me, but when looking out in the distance its very blurry, its like the photo textures are taking a very long time to load, by the time it loads in sharp, my plane is already right above it. I'm not sure why I have this blurriness mess with photoreal scenery. I don't have this problem at all when using FTX Global, openLC. Everything is extremely sharp, even from a distance.

I have my LOD at Maximum, and TEXTURE_EXP_SIZE=10 as well. So I'm not sure why photoscenery is so blurry and not sharp at all, until my plane gets closer to that area. I'm using a Cessna 172, its not a fast plane. Does anyone know what the problem may be?

Chris, thanks for pointing that out. Strange because I didn't have this problem in previous versions of P3D and FSX as well. Such a drawback for a 64bit sim to unable to have sharp photoreal textures. Seems like P3D is going backwards in certain areas. I really hope this gets fixed soon. I have just bought some photo scenery that I'd like to use, but it's unusable to me under these conditions.

Has photoscenery the same "sharpness" as V3 ? Or is it less sharp in the distance in V4 ?

As I am waiting for a Prosim update I am currently still using v3. And I am satisfied with the look of my photoscenery icw visibility in the distance.

Thanks

Less sharp in P3D v4. Not sure why. :( LOD in the distance is blurry.

That is not good news.

I use photoscenery only with custom AG on top of it. Still on v3..

With AS16 I use a max visibility of 125 and PTA for a haze layer in the distance icw raleigh scattering. Perhaps this might mask it ...

LM needs to fix this. If you're a photo scenery user, then right now, v4 is not going to do well.

Quote from Beau Hollis :

The terrain texture does end up higher resolution, but it is still copying from a source image that is 256x256, so the added resolution isn't very noticeable. For now, I would suggest turning terrain texture resolutions back to default if you plan on doing most flights over photo scenery areas, as this will load faster and use less memory.

It may be possible to use the SDK to compile a higher resolution image into the source bgl to support the new resolutions, but I'm not familiar enough with the tools side to be sure. We do have some ideas for how we might address it in the engine, to potentially support existing content at higher resolutions, but we haven't had a chance to look into this in detail yet, as it was reported fairly recently.
Thanks

As my photoscenery is 1024x1024 up to 2048x2048 and not 256x256 would it still effect the sharpness in the distance ?

I'm not exactly sure, so I should uncheck 'use high-resolution terrain textures' or lower my slider for Texture resolution under the graphic settings in P3D?

I am using the Gen-X photo scenery and no blurries here with default cfg settings. At least on my pc it's much improved over FSX.
