I said technology. If the market for the desktop is a small fish in a big pond, then VR technology advances will be focused on where the market if the most lucrative. And that certainly isn't the desktop. The desktop these days tends to be showcase for hardware companies, but they know that consoles and phones are where the money is. Just wait until a 4K console hits the market with a viable 4K VR headset.

Great... if you want to play a low polygon version of Mario Kart VR in 4K, not so good if you are planing to run a top end detailed flight simulator with flight controls (which just to remind you is what this thread is actually about!)

Consoles have never been anywhere near the power end of top end PC's and never will.  Top end detailed Flight Simulators will always be a niche PC market. PC VR is a natural extension of that. Technology advances maybe be focused on where the market is most lucrative... but to try to infer that the same technologies will be somehow withheld from PC is a stretch.

Really this just looks like just another irrelevant attempt to have another pop at VR in a thread created purely to talk about the forth coming PC VR improvements to X-Plane. It would be laughable to suggest in this forum that all flat screen flight simmers will have to move consoles soon because "that's where the market is most lucrative", and yet somehow specifically in VR you think that's a reasonable assumption? You may have noticed, I really like VR. Even so, I would never consider poking around a flat screen thread stirring up wild predictions that we are entering a world where their medium is doomed... and I will death match mud wrestle anyone who tries the same with VR!

Perhaps your console theories would be better suited to your own thread and not one created specifically for x-plane?

Oh I'm sorry. I thought that this thread was about VR. And I'm glad to see that "your Rift is running at 4K". Too bad that's from adding up both eyes.

The game is rendering in 4k..  which does send a 4k image to each eye. True, the native screen is not 4k but it hugely improves the standard image qualitly.

It looks great.. you should try it! Not only would it demonstraite what the current gen PC VR is capible of but it would also put you more in an informed position to actually critique credibly.
