Coffee Lake 8700k to offer an 11% jump in single core and 51% jump in multithread

Recommended Posts

Thanks for reminding me about AMD.  I had briefly looked at Ryzen because of this factor.  What I've never heard definitive comment/proof about is just what solder translates to as far as heat transfer efficiency over whatever they are currently using.  If it's as significant as most of us believe the most plausible explanation as to why Intel isn't soldering suggests this is by design for reasons other than cost per se.   I'll stick w/ my first guess which is that they are keeping it as an ace in the hole for if and when they can no longer announce performance increases w/ the next chip release w/o improving cooling performance.   Perhaps Ice Lake, as its name hints, might herald a return to solder we can only hope and with some more luck maybe my 3930K will last until we find out.   From everything I just now read, it appears doubtful.  Again, AMD is soldering!
