Are they about to release a newer model, or is this just a one-off sale that is going on?

Thanks - Martin

No newer model projected until probably 2019. This is just a one off sale.

... no newer model projected of the Oculus Rift.

However, as a rift owner, I am not convinced that there isn't something better just around the corner sooner.

The Windows Mixed reality headsets are out soon (although steam support is later). They are higher resolution but the jury is out ATM if the over all visual quality is better? These maybe a cheaper answer if you are not interested in VR controllers and just want it for sim flying/driving.

LOL, Oculus doesn't want anyone to miss its software blowout. When you go into Oculus home, you are hit with a big timer counting down the hours to the end of the sale. Approx 14 more to go at the time of this post.
