Make sure you have the latest nVidia drivers installed 385.41 (clean installation) ... only issue I've noted with 385.41 is that ShadowPlay (video recording) introduces more long frames that aren't in my actual flight experience. Note: with Add-ons there will always be some level of long frames (stutters) but they should NOT be so frequent that they become distracting. Cheers, Rob. Windows Game DVR? nVidia doesn't call it "ShadowPlay" any more, but that's the process I use to record ... it onchip accelerated (compressed) but is limited to 130bps quality so tends to introduce lots of compression gradients, especially during night flights. P3D V4 has apparently improved it's native video recording capabilities, but I haven't tried it recently. The best option (stutter free and no FPS hit) is to use a separate PC and/or device to capture uncompressed HDMI or DP digital signal ... use a HDMI or DP splitter so that I'm not reliant on the capture PC/Device being ON. I'm looking into getting one of these device to see how it works: http://www.magewell.com/pro-capture-hdmi-4k-plus or http://www.magewell.com/usb-capture-hdmi-4k-plus Cheers, Rob.
September 6, 20178 yr Author No change after getting 15% free space. Wondering too if maybe some usb device could be causing the stutter. Read this once somewhere. September 7, 20178 yr Author Victory at last! So i started clean slate on my HTPC with 980ti.. installed ftx global, openlc NA, SCA and meigs and ksan.. Flew around pgh again.. still see slight tile and tree loading, not too bad.. very smooth frame rates.. weirdly less than some orbx areas.. on that system around 45 on avg.. no stuttering. So.. on my main machine i wiped my test drive clean again, copied over the files.. instant success.. even ksan on my machine which was in the upper 20s with some mild clouds was now averaging a bit higher on similar graphic settings. On both machines i was not using symbolic links out of My Docs to the files and addons folders.. perhaps part of the success.. or something about the newly installed folders is "cleaner" than what i had.. ill try putting things back to symbolic links so i can prove what was the real culprit here. I noted that there is more tile and autogen loading in non addon areas, i suppose that makes sense though.. ie: pittsburgh pretty noticeable.. barely noticeable at ksan area. September 7, 20178 yr Author So far i've concluded that my better setup is due to one of a few things.. one for sure seems to be making sure Night Environment Pennsylvania is off in the daytime.. it can induce lag/stutter.. but beyond that, maybe just the clean user and progdata folders (still using my full blown scenery.cfg though). It could also be the terrain.cfg being "clean" and ftxg influenced only (unsure).. **does anyone know the ramifications of starting with a clean terrain.cfg (where utx will come into play once i re-activate those entries again).. is it enough to just open ftx central and all the utx tools to have the terrain reset (open and then close, do nothing)? It so far does NOT seem to be related to using symbolic links for folders. I'm also testing with the default b58 baron to rule out weird anomalies with addon crafts such as the legacy. September 8, 20178 yr Author So as i mentioned i made great progress in getting the sim to have less stutter.. at least the hard stopping kind i was experiencing.. non FTX areas are super smooth now at 60 fps.. areas that are harder hitting are still a little laggy, but not by much.. take for instance KSAN + FTX SCA + FTXG + OpenLC USA I'm noticing that the tiles near KSAN in the suburban area are darkening very slowly (slow loading textures).. i'm in a default b58 aircraft too, nothing super fast i would say.. i dont experience this as much anymore in other areas. My minimal frame rate here in this area close to the city hits 28-31 fps at one or two points.. more like an average of 38.. peaking to 50 in spots depending on the direction.. so for the most part hard turning tests show little stutter, but there is some, nothing earth shattering i suppose.. but i can certainly "feel" the difference between a sluggish 35 fps turn and one at 60 by far.. and i re-did all the suggestions to try to eliminate the slow loading textures and sluggishness (lack of smoothness).. i tried setting 1/2 refresh rate in NI and 30 in sim.. tried setting 30 in sim.. tried setting 30 in NI only.. went with ni fast sync mode too.. tried setting the limit to say 40 or even 37.. setting it to lower values in either case was noticeably less smooth.. so i've chalked this up to being a hard hitting FTX area.. which it is.. maybe one day they will fix it? But in this video you can see the slow loading texture just in front of the aircraft.. (note raising the texture res to 2 eliminates it, but also eliminates the added texture of course lol.. i show my settings i'm sticking with at the end. I get the same results, lower frames on my other machine at a lower clock speed with a 980ti (roughly an average of 10 fps less on this other machine). I briefly was considering experimenting with a jump to a 1080 TI from my 1080 gtx ftw, but i highly doubt much gain will be had for the net cost of $350 moving up a notch (guessing 5 fps max). September 8, 20178 yr 8 minutes ago, theskyisthelimit said: i tried setting 1/2 refresh rate in NI and 30 in sim If you're using 1/2 refresh rate and your monitor operates at 60Hz, you should be using Vsync ON (Triple Buffer ON will smooth things out even more provided you have the FPS to spare) and set to Unlimited. If this is working correctly your FPS should report 29-31 pending your polling frequency and what you use to monitor FPS. You WILL see a gain going from a 1080 FE to a 1080Ti, I did, about 25%. Again, I can't comment on "worth/value" that's entirely subjective. I was hoping to see your graphics settings in your video, but you selected "Graphics" at the end but terminated the video before displaying them? Cheers, Rob.
