P3Dv3 CRASHES WITHOUT ERRORS

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I've been using this version of p3d for almost a year now and fslabs for half a year and haven't had much problems up until now.
Since one month ago, these CTDs without errors (even in eventveiwer) started to occur. I haven't done any major change in connection with hardware/software
in this time, so I really don't know what would cause such kind of erros. I've installed older (springtime) version of my graphic card which is gygabyte1070oc.

After suggestion on another forum, i've downloaded appcrashview and found one of these wierd crash reports in there. I pasted it below.
Can you guys please suggest me what to do in this case? What would cause this types of errors? It occours randomly (before, within or after the flight) and it happens really
suddenly, without warning, P3D just closes one of a sudden without any error. It is really weird and painful, as I don't even know what's reason behind that.
VAS should not be a problem as I was monitoring it for a while and it never goes to or close to number, where you start getting warnings (if using FSUIPC). FSUIPC is also up-to-date.

Hello Chate, whenever I get these, I just check to make sure that my drivers are up to date - especially audio and graphics. Windows constantly changes things around, and it ultimately affects our sim. It certainly is a good starting point. Perhaps start there?

Hi, thanks for fast reply.
I use driverbooster and it says all drivers are up to date. About geforce driver, I returned to april's version (as I had no problems in april with this kinds of crashes) and it didnt resolve the problem.

Any other ideas?

Try disabling any addon scenery and see if that makes a difference.

Also, when the crash occurs makes a difference in tracking the problem down. Does it happen while loading the sim?  Loading into an aircraft/airport and if so about what percentage of loading does it crash at?  Does it crash while flying?  Have you tried loading into/flying out of a different airport of area?  Stuff like that will help track it down.

The AVSIM CTD Guide (left hand side of most every AVSIM page) will help you to track this problem down even further.

Best wishes!

In FSX I found that my random CTD's which would happen every 30 hours or so seemed to be related to scenery.  On certain routes I was much more prone to getting them vs. other routes.  FSX stores a lot of data on a hard drive so it is possible that a bgl can get damaged, assuming say a .01 pct error rate in writing the data.  There are utilities that monitor file activity that you can run in the background to see what file the sim might be accessing just before a crash happens.  I used those once and I was able to track down a bad bgl.  Keep in mind that a bgl can be from anywhere but can still cause the sim to crash if it is damaged.  The file monitor utilities are a great research tool, you can find them here on the web.  They may help you avoid doing a full reinstall.

You have a strange installation.  LockheedMartin is misspelled in the crash report and no way Lockheed Martin would ever misspell their name when using their installer to install the application on your computer system. How did they misspell their name?  It's not like that on my computer.  Maybe you need to download the latest installer from Lockheed Martin and reinstall?

Well about scenery, I wouldn't be sure because once again, I've used that exact simm since last year and didn't have any problems. I used to isntall few airports, but they were all for p3d... I really don't know what triggered these CTDs now. And what's even more weird is that there is not error.. It just closes to desktop without any freeze or whatsoever...

It is crashing because your application does not recognize Locheed is mispellled:

LoadedModule[275]=E:\Program Files\Locheed Martin\Gauges\

Reinstall Lockheed"s P3D.

Thanks for advice Jim, but again; this platform had been running with no CTDs for more than half year, with exactly the same name of the folder, which was misspelled by me, when creating it. None of add-ons had problems with it either. So there must be something more than that :/

I'm not sure if the file structure has anything to do with your unexplained crashes but normally, if you place a P3D into a folder other than the default like I did, the folder is named:  E:\Prepar3D v4\Gauges etc., and not E:\Program Files\Locheed Martin\Gauges.  Not sure if some installers of addons are not looking for a certain registry item should exactly where P3D is located.  Have you looked in C:\Program Files\ to see if someone created a folder there too?

Best regards,

Jim

Just checked it and there is the folder, within it there is only Effects subfolder so one of addons must had installed that folder  to that location. You think crashes are related to that?

When you have a crash without errors anything is possible as there is absolutely no solution for crashes without errors.  I had several crashes the other day.  P3D just shutdown to desktop.  No error message showed up on the screen but there was an AppCrashView report with a faulting module and an Event Viewer report with a faulting module.  In my case I was programming the G1000 in my Carenardo aircraft and there was an issue with the NavData which I understand now is not a problem with Carenardo but with P3DV4.  LM is aware of the issue and it will be fixed in the next update to P3Dv4.  It is to be released very soon.

Effects have been known to cause crashes.  Modules in the modules folder have caused crashes too as well as a gauge in the Gauge folder.  Whenever you add add-ons, whether compatible with P3Dv4 or not, you run into the chance of a crash or a freeze with no error message.

If you overclocked your video card yourself (i.e., not factory OC'd) then I would remove that overclock.

I know exactly what is causing your crashes but it is difficult to explain but it has something to do with the installation of your Add-ons. I'll try to explain. If you installed the LorbySi Addon Manager (freeware) (see LorbySi Forum here on AVSIM), you need to make sure the addon is installed and so are the components (if any entries show you have some scenery installed as Addon.xml files.  You need to make sure none of the Addon scenery and especially the Scenery.cfg have no encoding errors and the LorbySi Addon Manager can tell you that.  If it has encoding errors, most likely P3D will crash w/o any errors because P3D cannot read the scenery files somewhere (at startup, during the flight, at the end of the flight).  The only way I know how to make sure the scenery.cfg is encoded properly (if the LorbySi says it is not encoded properly), is to save the scenery.cfg to scenery.cfg.orig and restart P3D.  The config will be rebuilt to the default.  Once rebuilt, you can manually locate all of your scenery while running P3D and the scenery will be activated.  Or, open up the scenery.cfg in Notepad+++ (do Google search if you do not have it installed).  Then open scenery.cfg.orig by righ clicking scenery.cfg.orig and select Open with Notepad+++.  Both the scenery.cfg and the orig should be open now in Notepad+++.  Copy all of your addon scenery entries (not the default) then go to the scenery.cfg and paste those entries into your scenery.cfg.  Save.  Restart P3D and you should be seeing the indexes rebuilding.  This should fix your problem but, if you have an incompatible addon, then all bets are off that P3D will run properly.  I hope this convoluted mess is fixed in the next version of P3D and it will be easier to open the scenery.cfg and close it without messing up the encoding.  I think anyone who opens the scenery.cfg up with the SceneryConfigEditorv1.1.9 will have encoding errors if they save their scenery.cfg in SCE.  At least that's what happens to me.  So far I have been unsuccessful in opening my corrupted and not encoded properly scenery.cfg in Notepad+++ and then saving it in UTF-8.  It will not allow the new encoding.  Right now my scenery.cfg is not encoded properly but fortunately I have everything installed as an Addon.xml and the scenery is no longer in my scenery.cfg.  Only thing that is not an addon.xml is UTX2 and I can use their utility to enable the entries in the new scenery.cfg.  Hope this works for you too!
