September 21, 20178 yr I tried to run the GNS Trainer downloaded by RXP GNS 530W v.2 by itself. It (G530SIM.exe) would fire up, but I can't turn it on by pressing the Power/Com volume knob. Is this normal? Also, I was curious and ran WFDEprdct.exe...it says something like the almanac was corrupt, then updated even though I closed the dialogue boxes instead of clicking OK. Looks like these files were modified: 006-D0740-03.ini, GEOAlmanac.ini, and trainerShrFile. Does this affect anything? Thanks in advance for any answers....
September 21, 20178 yr Hi, yes it won't run by itself and this is normal! As for the almanac, it is not supposed to affect anything but the FDE prediction program.
April 3, 20215 yr I have now uninstalled and re-installed GNS400W-500WseriesTrainerLite_330, and it still won't run: I click on the G530SIM app in the C:\Program Files (x86)\Garmin\GNS Trainer\ folder, the app boots, and the Garmin 530 screen appears, but it is frozen. The instructions say to "power on the unit", but none of the buttons work. This happens with and without XPlane 11 running with a valid RXP 430/530 license, and also using "run as admin" You state "it won't run by itself and this is normal!", but I'm not sure what you mean by this. Thanks.

April 3, 20215 yr Thanks for the reply, Bert, but, if it won't run by itself, then what, exactly, does it need to run in conjunction with if not XP + RXP license? To put it another way: I boot the (1) trainer on my windows 10 machine, then (2) boot XP 11, and the trainer doesn't work. I then reverse (1) and (2) sequnce, and it still doesn't work. What, exactly, do you boot to get it to run? Thanks! - Eric Edited April 3, 20215 yr by FWIW
April 3, 20215 yr @FWIWThe RXP gauge calls the Trainer without you ever starting it. It runs in the background. If you have a problem, check the contents of the rxp log files (in your Documents folder)! Edited April 3, 20215 yr by Bert Pieke Bert
April 18, 20215 yr Thanks, Bert - sorry for slow reply, but I'm only just back on my sim stuff. The problem was that it sure looked to me as if, at least at one time, the screen that appears when you boot the trainer actually was some kind of interactive tutorial, which pointed out what to do, and which then had you then push the corresponding buttons, etc. The accompanying "help" doc, for example, has phrases that suggest an interactive app. In fact, I found links to documentation to what clearly appear to be interactive trainers (DVDs, etc.) with the *exact* same interface. As you mentioned, "it runs in the background." I've checked out the various RXP options and searched on "trainer" in the manual, and there appears to be no "trainer" mode in the RXP plugin. So, if the "trainer" is a non-user-accessible component of the RXP gauge, it seems to me that it should be invisible to the user. I have written a lot of software applications for various clients, and I learned early on to make as little as necessary accessible to users. The RXP installer could, for example, simply make placement of the trainer part of the installation process. As it is, it adds unnecessarily to the plugin's complexity and leads new users to needlessly spend time trying to figure it out (as Aviator1213's post indicates, I'm not the only person to have been mislead). The "trainer's" help doc has some useful information, but nothing that isn't presented well in the Garmin-produced manual and pilot quick ref docs. Moreover, there are a number of pretty good 430/530 tutorials on YouTube. Thanks again.

Now you understand that the RXP GNS gauge interfaces to the Garmin GNS Trainer which runs in the background. Having said that, the Garmin Trainer was developed by Garmin for use by RW Garmin owners, to practice using the GNS without burning avgas.. So it can be used independently (as intended by Garmin) or called by the RXP gauge without the user's involvement.. Bert
April 18, 20215 yr If you want to use the trainer stand alone you can install the G600 trainer from Garmin, it includes the 530W/430W trainer which can/is also used by RXP. Possibly you will have to set some path reference, see the RXP manual. I have it running in that way and it works perfectly. The reason is that I like to sometimes just train with the 530W/430W without fully starting X-Plane. On 9/21/2017 at 2:38 PM, RXP said: Hi, yes it won't run by itself and this is normal! That is different form the non-WAAS units. Edited April 18, 20215 yr by PeterBremer
