September 30, 20178 yr After playing around a bit with PTA and URP trying out different shaders and presets I all of a sudden noticed how my aircraft no longer would cast shadows on the ground. I then tried restoring the default shaders and cleared the shaders cache but the issue was still there. I did get my aircraft to cast shadows on itself but not on the ground. I tried unchecking all shadows and then re-enabled them but still same thing. Now I'm currently restoring my system to a state where I know the shadows worked normally but still thought I would ask if someone else experienced the same thing and managed to find out what was causing the issue? I'm using the latest version of P3Dv4.

September 30, 20178 yr Hi Richard, Is this at one particular payware airport or all airports? I'm guessing a payware airport where the aprons, taxiways and/or runways are at a slightly higher elevation than the "ground." Shadow is there but it is being cast on the ground (as it should be) not the aprons, taxiways and/or runways. Try taxiing off the runway onto the grass and see if the plane drops a bit. -J 13700KF | RTX 4090 @ 1440 | 64GB DDR5 | 2 x 1TB SSDs | 1TB M.2 NVMe
September 30, 20178 yr Author Looks like I spoke too fast... Just did another test now after restoring my complete system backup but still same issue so apparently I had the issue already when I made the backup only I wasn't aware of it. I've double-checked I'm back using the default shaders and I even compared every single file using a software to the shaders in a 100% clean P3Dv4 installation (I always keep a clean copy should I require any default files) and they match 100% meaning I'm only using default P3Dv4 shaders. Based on this fact in combination with having cleared the shaders cache I don't really understand what's going on here. Will try a different airport like you suggest and guess a default airport would be the best option and see what happens. Might try in a default a/c as well while I'm at it. Here's an example what it looks like. This is at Orbx ESSA lined up on 01L in the NGX and as you can see both on the right wing as well as on the aft part of the fuselage I do have shadows...just not on the ground.

It’s the shadow settings. You have to select building to receive shadows. Lots of addon airports the runway is constructed as a model hence the need to select buildings to receive shadows Glenn Ryzen 3700X, X570 Pro Wifi, 32GB 3600mhz RAM, Nvidia Titan Xp "Galactic Empire", RM750x PSU, H700 case, 2x NVMe M2 SSD, 1x SATA SSD
September 30, 20178 yr Author Amazing how you keep learning new stuff even after all these years in this hobby In this specific case it was the receive shadows for simulator objects that needed to be checked. However I lost about 6-7 FPS enabling this and I don't find it worth it so will keep it unchecked now that I at least know why I don't get these shadows at this (and maybe some other) airports. Thanks for the help guys!
