March 15, 200620 yr I now use FSCommander 7.6 I have noticed that there are very few SID STARS to choose from. Is FSBuild better in this? If I get FSBuild what is the most importand difference I will see compared to FSC 7.6?
March 16, 200620 yr Yes, FSBuild does have many more SIDs and STARS available, and when you create a route it will automatically pick an appropriate one. It also holds North Atlantic and Pacific track information for oceanic crossings and allows you to import ActiveSky winds aloft data for fuel planning purposes. On the down side, the interface takes a bit of getting used to at first, it can make mistakes when you paste in a flight plan where a waypoint has a shared name with a different one elsewhere in the world, and the map doesn't show anything like the detail that the FSCommander one does. However, FSBuild has the ability to export flight plans to FSCommander, so you can create them in FSBuild, export them to FSCommander and then modify them as desired. Matthew Spedding
March 16, 200620 yr Author FSBuild (2.22) also allows modifying the flight plan. I proof the route in its attached map. By clicking in the route grid display I believe you have the option of picking other similarly named waypoints and rebuilding the route for checking on the map.SID-STAR database upgrades are available. Those that come with it are plentiful. If you have a real-world route where the DP/STAR differs in name (such as ARRID1 vs ARRID2) usually you can place the one in the database. The route grid converts DP/STARs to the actual waypoints (as are exported) so editing can be done there if necessary. I use it with the PMDG 737NG series to create "company routes" that can be imported into its FMC as waypoints. So far that has worked well for me. Of course FSB exports to FS9 as well for importing importing into ATC and weather apps. FSB also interfaces with Active Sky so winds are considered in its fuel planning feature.
September 30, 200619 yr Quick question- does fsbuild require active sky in order to import winds aloft data? is there a way to manually enter winds aloft or is that tedious?ThanksAlden
