November 21, 20178 yr I buy a new GPU every 4 years or so, so I don't know much about priced and performance increase from one series to another. I currently have GTX970 and I'm thinking of buying a new one - GTX1080Ti... but I stumbled upon some articles claiming Volta will probably come out in the beginning of 2018. How do prices of the brand new series compare to previous ones in the first months of the launch of the new series? Are they the same and the previous get cheaper of are they higher? Is there usually a big performance increase? Bottom line, should I buy 1080Ti now or should I wait a few months and buy 1180Ti (or whatever it will be called)? The current price of 1080Ti is my max budget for GPU, not a cent more. Thanks for advice! Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
November 21, 20178 yr I wanted to wait for Volta and upgrade my 1060, and after reading and researching a lot I went i bought 1080Ti instead. I guess my impatience was the main culprit. November 21, 20178 yr Author I'm afraid I have the same problem :) But still, if I can get better stuff for the same money if I wait a few months I'll seriously consider doing that. Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
November 21, 20178 yr You can do that. But again i was thinking if i am always going to wait the next gen hardware i'll never buy anything :P Ivan Majetic ROG CROSSHAIR X670E HERO; 7900X3D; NZXT KRAKEN ELITE 360, GIGABYTE RTX 4080; G.SKILL TridentZ NEO RGB DDR5 64 Gb, WD HDD 2TB, SAMSUNG 980PRO, SAMSUNG 970EVO Plus 2x, ALIENWARE 3423DWF
November 21, 20178 yr The primary force that would compel nVidia to release Volta any time soon is not revenue (rather, they seem to be breaking records every fiscal quarter recently) but competition. And right now there simply isn't much competition NVidia must be concerned about. They can continue milking the Pascal cow for several more months or longer. Waiting for Volta could end up being a long, boring experience. Greg
November 22, 20178 yr Author Ok, but let's say it is released in February for example. What performance improvements are expected and what's usually the price for new series.. higher, same,..? Tomaz Drnovsek My FSX Videos My AVSIM Gallery
November 22, 20178 yr Initial price will be the same or a bit higher when gtx10xx came out. Of course the prices will come down eventually. My 1080Ti just came in, and the price difference today and two weeks ago is already down 25 EUR.
