A Rarity: Airliner flight

Recommended Posts

I usually don't touch these sorts of planes... but this was on sale recently and it's one I've wanted for some time.  You'll see some wrong indications on the instrumentation because I'm still a noob, but here's a flight from KMSP to KDLH, and I shot the RNAV Ry 27.

Feel free to tell me what I'm doing wrong - and is there a way to set nose wheel steering to my pedals or ailerons?  Using the mouse is annoying.  And the blue lights -I see this on all my P3D stuff - anyone know why they are blue?

Hi Ryan,

It looks like you are either too slow, or (more likely) idled the throttles before touching the ground. Try to keep around 135 Kts during approach and don't put the throttles below 16 or so before touch down.

Ground steering can be set to ailerons using the configuration program that comes with the plane. I don't recall having seen blue lights on my system.

Ok - 135 - that's fast for a turboprop isn't it?  737 around 140 ish?  That explains why things were getting sloppy on final LOL

Hey, I thought you rarely fly airliners ;)

I tend to fly slightly faster than published speeds to have a little bit of a safety margin. I guess I gave you an extra margin in my estimates :)

I think the usual approach speed is around 128 or so (depending on the weight), and I normally try to hit 130.

I really don't - I just watch the jets on the radar when they're on final (work work work)

Does anyone know where to get a freeware fuel planner for this plane?  It seems I need to enter fuel calc in the fms to really use it well.  I don't use pfpx or whatever that is called.

I've only flown on Horizon twice to my recollection, in and out of Klamath Falls Oregon.  I loved their champagne service, really felt like I was treated like royalty.  I flew Alaska many years ago with my two nephews, and we had the bulkhead seats on their MD-80.  We loved it, just like first class.  My brother and I tricked them into the flight, I told my nephews (who were 9 and 12 at that time) that we were going to San Francisco for the day, but as I drove by downtown SFO I told them there was too much traffic and no place to park, so I drove them to an airport parking lot just north of KSFO.

I told my oldest nephew to open my glove compartment, and from within he pulled out our tickets to Socal and a trip to Disney I had planned for them.  It was my greatest act of deception ever, they never forgot it.  My parents and I paid for the trip, to help my brother out who was having some hard times.  I did not want my brother to lose out on giving his children wonderful memories, he was my older brother and he always protected me, so I did the same for his children.  Also, I wanted his children to love flying.  I knew so many children had a fear of flying, so I would do these science projects in school.  That's why I find our hobby and your sharing of screenshots, as well as others, so important.  Our roads are more and more crowded, trains take up too much real estate.  Airborne and Seaborne traffic are a must to keep the world economy humming.
