April 15, 200620 yr BTW...When I fly VC, I don't pan...I switch side views the same way I would a 2d panel. With the keyboard...That way it snaps back to the same exact position, and I don't have to clutz around trying to get it centered back in, etc.. I do have a hat switch, and can pan around, but I rarely use it..MK Mark Keith
April 15, 200620 yr I use the hat to pan in the VC and use the trigger button on my joystick to recenter the view. I have left and right views programmed to buttons as well for quick looks and I also use the mini-joystick on my CH Pro Throttle for looking around, the view re-centers automatically when I let go of that. The mini joystick only lets me pan to about 85 degrees each side though. It is a little easier than the hat switch. I have TrackIR but haven't used it in over a year, just never got used to it.bud
April 15, 200620 yr It all depends on VC quality. With the 777 and 747 payware planes I only use the VC.Its awesome!, and immersive.JohanA LITTLE LESS CONVERSATION, AND A LITTLE MORE ACTION PLEASE!HELP:http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=238882

April 16, 200620 yr I use snap views to look around much more than I pan still. Using the trigger to recenter is a good idea, I may have to give that a try. I'm always having trouble getting the view nicely centered again when I pan. The real problem for me is that I can never find a pan rate that will let me get a quick look in a certain direction when I want it and yet not feel ridiculously fast when I'm just sight-seeing. And I can't afford TrackIR.
April 16, 200620 yr so Dave tell me what your impressions were from your friends 40" screen playing FS. I7-10700F RTX 3070 32 Gig Ram
April 16, 200620 yr Author It's awesome really, VFR flying from 'spot' view is great. He's not 'hardcore' like me and only fly's for the fun of it. The 2D view is distorted though with the guages looking a bit squashed. I told him to re-size and have things like the fmc, navigator etc running either side of the main screen but he has it as he wants it.One nice thing also, is the fact that you don't have to wear glasses for reading, hehe. It's a plasma screen and something I'd treasure if it was mine but, at Dave Taylor
April 16, 200620 yr Go get Flight1's free view util and start mouse panning. It's much better than the hat switch. You assign a button on the mouse that overrides panning so that you can control switches and knobs and so forth when you need to and use the spacebar to recenter. Works very smoothly...(I use Active Camera though)

Works very smoothly...(I use Active>Camera though)I have the Flight1 view utility. It's nice for looking around just for the heck of it, but a terrible option for changing views when you really need to IMO. I only have two hands. My right one is on the stick, and even when my left one's not on the throttle or another control, I still have to awkwardly reach across the keyboard and my body to get to the mouse, as I have to set my stick on my mousepad and leave the mouse laying on my desk between the stick and keyboard.
April 17, 200620 yr I'm left handed. The stick sits in one spot on the left where my keyboard would normally be. The KB is moved up above the stick. The mouse sits to the right of the stick. It's an optical mouse, so no mouse pad to worry about. I don't find it much trouble at all panning around and controlling things. Practice makes perfect. :)
