April 19, 200620 yr Dear Fellow Simmers,I have Jepperson's "Simcharts" for FS2004 and I was wondering whether anyone has come up with a module that would allow access to these charts within the cockpit in FS9.regardskevin

Check the SimCharts help for something called SimTrack.Mark Kuebeler
April 20, 200620 yr Thanks Manny,I downloaded and tried the demo version and it just would'nt access the Jepp charts in my D drive.Big frame rate hit aswell.Hi Mark,I wasn't aware of SimTrack until you mentioned it.I have checked and I am sure that I didn't get an installation disc for SimTrack 3.0 in the original package.I've e-mailed Jepp and I'm hoping I might get one by return. Thanks for the heads up!warmest regardskevin
April 20, 200620 yr Hi Kevin,When you originally installed SimCharts it should have installed the SimTrack also. On your menu in FS there should be an entry for Jeppesen which is the only way you can bring it up when flying (no quickkeys). It does install a module into MSFS, SimViewJr.dll. The in sim viewer won't display all the charts included in SimCharts, many of the STAR's and SID's don't have the embedded lat/lon data so only the ones that allow accurate tracking are displayed. These are generally all the airport overlays and all the ILS/RNAV/VORDME/VOR/NDB runway procedures. April 20, 200620 yr Thank you Mark and Zane.I've been in touch with Jepperson and they said my inability to access SimTrak was due to a faulty install.I uninstalled/reinstalled and can now access SimTrak from the FS9 cockpit. For someone who flys in a dimly lit room and whose eyesight is well less than 20/20,this program has all of a sudden become one hot utility for me.Many thanks again for all your help guys!Warmest regardskevin

After I read Mark's post, I went and googled for it.. it seems like a neat idea.. Except one review I came across that wasn't partial to it. .It said..the quality of the charts themselves were great..but looking at the viewer was hard or something. But I am thinking.. if you have multiple monitors.. you may be able to move that chart window away in some non intrusive manner. Its still a neat idea.ThanksManny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
April 21, 200620 yr Kevin,Glad that this now works for you. Tell us if you're having problems using the program more than once without having to reboot your computer. In my case, I can use the program once, but it doesn't want to read the charts a second time, unless I reboot the PC. April 21, 200620 yr Hi Kevin and Dave,You will have to reboot the computer to use Jeppesen Simview if you open MSFS more than once. I went round and round with Jeppesen on this a couple of years ago and they insisted they couldn't reproduce the problem and it must be caused by one of the add ons I had placed on my computer (I own all nine regions by the way!). It has happened on all three of my home computers I have built in the last few years, my laptop and on a fresh FS9 install with no add-ons. The problem is probably something that doesn't close properly after shutting down FS9 so it won't allow the program to be opened a second time. You can open SimCharts multiple times before running FS9 but after using SimView from within FS9 neither SimCharts nor SimView is usable until afer a reboot. April 21, 200620 yr >Hey Kevin,>>After you try that SimTrack, please post what you think of>it.. Snip>But I am thinking.. if you have multiple monitors.. you may be>able to move that chart window away in some non intrusive>manner. Just thought I'd jump in here, even though I'm not Kevin. I have Jeppesen SimCharts and I'm running SimTrack. There's a limited demo on the Jeppesen website which lets you run SimTrack on about half a dozen airports. I loved it so I bought coverage for one region (Eastern US) and I like it so much I'm going to buy another region real soon. Its really useful to have constant updates on your exact position - even when you're off the actual chart, it gives you a direction pointer and a distance so you know when you're getting close. Its great to be able to fly instrument approaches without having to cross-reference the GPS to the approach charts. Not to mention being able to identify which way to turn on a taxiway intersection!I run on two monitors which means I can run SimTrack on the second monitor and it isn't at all intrusive. SimTrack also adds a menu item to the FS9 toolbar which keeps things nice and simple. Its not perfect by any means - the exact location of the aircraft on the airport groundplans tends to be a little inaccurate, but I find that only a minor annoyance. Its also expensive if you like to do long haul flights because you only get limited coverage with each licence - there are nine regions in total of which the US and Canada make up 4.All that said, I use it EVERY time I make a flight and I wouldn't be without it.ThanksAndrewK
April 21, 200620 yr Author Thanks Andrew.Andrew, could you give me a link to Jeppesen sight where I can download the demo version?I looked for it and couldn't find it.http://www.jeppesen.comManny Manny Beta tester for SIMStarter
