Caribbean / Jamaica?!?

Featured Replies

Hi all-So, tonight I thought I'd do some searching for Jamaican airports, especially Boscobel.Well, it actually started out as a Google Earth search of Ocho Rios, but after looking there and Google Maps, and doing general searches about everywhere, I just can't seem to figure out why there is so little actual road/airport information available! Can anyone point me to a) flight simulator resources for Caribbean scenery, including Jamaica, and :( some type of -good- airport/facility information? I find it strange that actual, official airport information is so hard to find. Aren't there LOTS of airports throughout the Caribbean?FWIW, the "Airports Authority of Jamaica" website doesn't work too well either. And a few places that -seem- to have had Caribbean scenery (eg Flight1)... ah... I can't find it on there site.Is there some type of conspiracy or something??!?! :)Any leads appreciated!thanks,Andrew

Hi Andrew,Caribbean sceneries are all over the place :) , here and elsewhere, but use this site as an index for a start:http://walhalla.mine.nu/fs2004.phpFor payware check out http://www.tropicalsim.com/home/For MKJS/MKJP chart info (not sure if up to date though):http://www.kingstonvirtual.org.ky/jamaica.htmI have not been virtually 'home' in a looong time, mostly because there is no scenery that reflects my now drastically changing home airport MKJP - perhaps in future though, when it's done :)regards,Markhttp://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a319/mar.../sup_banner.jpgXPHomeSP2/FS9.1/3.2HT/1024mb/X700pro256

If looking for general airport information in the Caribbean, the best (and often only) option is to do a google search on the airport name with the ICAO code (that will filter out most of the general travel sites). You probably won't find one site with all information, however you should find a combination of sites that should give you a good picture. Don't be too surprised if you find little airport info for smaller Caribbean airports online. Sometimes it is difficult just to find runway length and dimensions. Other times I've looked and found conflicting information. Usually if you dig through enough links, you can find the information you need. As for fs2004 scenery, search for Bill Melichar in the library. His freeware sceneries are a great place to start.

Probably also will want to check out www.fs-freeflow.com for their Bermuda and upcoming Bahamas scenery. Really first class freeware.Thomas[a href=http://www.flyingscool.com/FC_StartJava.html] http://www.flyingscool.com/images/Signature.jpg [/a]I like using VC's :-)

Thanks everyone - great stuff.Craig - yeah, it's weird - considering how important accurate airport information is, it's unusual to have such a hard time finding information for airports which are in heavy daily use! We're going to Jamaica next month... I hope the pilot can find the airport :)Andrew
