AVSim forum membership (as of this post) : 21,801Number of indiviudal posters in "the thread": around 30

And a total of 816 reads of this thread as of this writing. Thanks for putting all this into perspective Ken. :)

A few of those are probably me making sure somebody doesn't call someone else a son of a mother scratcher....

Tom, Judging by your comments here and lack of response to my reply to the the email you sent to me over the weekend, I guess you have rescinded your offer to share a freeware designer's perspective with your users. I'm done fighting this battle with avsim. No one is going to convince me that all sites have essentially the same users with the same view points. And I'm not going to convince anyone otherwise. I feel that sometimes a few bad apples can spoil the whole cart. It's a shame to me that avsim will sit by and let that happen. Removing my file really doesn't hurt avsim but seeing that others have taken the same road, it's only a matter of time until any quality freeware will be a thing of the past.I feel sorry for new designers who are afraid to post their creations. How much great stuff are we missing out on because of fear? How many of you are sitting files you're afraid to post for fear of a bad review or getting flamed? (I'm still looking for names of files any of you have worked on to download.)So many threads talk about the slow demise of flightsim. Perhaps this is one of the straws that are breaking that camel's back. David Eckert

>Does anyone with a clear mind believe someone with Dave's>reputation would put a virus in his download? Do I think he would KNOWINGLY do so? Of course not. Do I think it might be possible that his machine could have been infected, and he could have accidentally uploaded a trojaned file? That is always a possibility. Commercial software from multimillion dollar companies has been shipped with virus infections, why would it be impossible for the same accident to happen to a freeware developer?> If other sites>were checked, as many here say they did, then it would be>clear that they all scan for viruses before allowing anything>into the library. If a virus was truly there then they all>would have contacted Dave to let him know something slipped>in, but they did not. You are assuming that all the virus scanners which the various sim sites use can detect 100% of known viruses. There is no 100% effective scanners out there, and I remain open to the possibility that a user's scanner may pick up a virus which the sim site missed.>The attitude of entitlement I see in this thread and others is>not right. When someone gives you something smile and say>thank you. Even if it does not live up to your expectations. >Our mothers (at least mine) would have twisted our ears off if>we were ever heard complaining about a gift that someone went>out of their way to give.Sigh. Once again, what attitude of entitlement? Are you reading the same threads that I am? I saw not one single post moaning about the quality of David's aircraft. I just don't understand where this persecution attitude is coming from. From my eye, I saw nothing but rave reviews!>>

>The bottom line here is simple. I find the prevailing>attitude at the avsim forums to be arrogant, self-righteous>and full of pompous do- nothing a$$es. You all sit there like>vultures waiting for the next thing to rip apart. Let me pound this in one more time: YOUR AIRCRAFT HAS BEEN ROUNDLY PRAISED WITH THE HIGHEST LAURELS. NO ONE HAS RIPPED IT APART. Quit acting like you've been crucified when everyone obviously loves your work.>How many aircraft have you released for free? >Let's see some of the aircraft some of you have claimed to>have released. let me take a look at them and "evaluate" your>work. Give me some examples for me to download and "test". Myself, I released 3 AC back in the FS5 days. A BV-141, a TU-144, and a Cessna 310 which had the then-innovative feature of inside views. I took a break from FS due to lack of adequate hardware to run newer versions, and got back into it about a year ago. Since then I have released a very nice VC and 2D panel add-on for Brian Gladden's Tri-Pacer, complete with several custom gauges. I have also released a complete replacement scenery package for the New York coastline and all major bodies of water on Long Island (That's 1200 miles of convoluted coastline I inspected on a pixel by pixel basis). The next project I worked on was a scenery enhancement adding every single ski area in the state of Washington, complete with accurate trail placement. Unfortunately, I have not had a chance to finish packaging and uploading this, as all my efforts have been concentrated on my newest project. My current project is a GA aircraft, and has been in-work for over 6 months. I have put over 1500 hours of Gmax time into it, and expect at least 500 more. I'd be glad to forward you some screenshots and let you download a copy of the current version of the model as a development snapshot, but I'd rather not put up public screenshots just yet to avoid the constant "is it done yet" emails. I'll forward you a link sometime this afternoon. Please feel free to comment at-length about the fidelity of the model, publicly if you wish, but do realize that the texturing has just begun.>Let's see what YOU have contributed to this community other>than self-centered remarks about the works of others. Get off>your a$$ed and do something constructive. >Yes, we as freeware designers deserve some respect. Even the>worst model released deserves some praise. My God, the guy had>the guts to expose his hard work to the world. What have do>you have the guts to do other than criticism him?>>I suspect there's a fair amount of envy here as well. You>can't do so you dis those that can. Once again, no one has dissed your work. Instead of continuously making these spurious claims, why don't you show us exactly where someone has done this?

>"First off man. Don't let these bozo's get you down! You work>too hard to put up with the BS. I can tell you from past>experience, AVSIM has some of the most opinionated idiots I>have ever run across. Case in point, I needed some help for a>Southwest Project a few years back. Asked for help; next thing>I know...I'm accused of being a terrorist, had Southwest>Security called on me TWICE...by this idiot(XXXX)(name>withheld for privacy) who is still on after being banned. Go>figure. It was a mess. But I got thru the BS; and certainly>very seldom post on AVSIM. Use Flightsim a lot. I agree a lot>more adult oriented folks thrive there.> I've already stated that I prefer the installer. I even enjoy the plane. I've flown a Stearman, and my late father flew many hours in them. But as a "bozo", I probably have no rational credibility, therefore, my above statements mean nothing!L.AdamsonBut................. if I go somewhere else and sign as Ladamson, without the period and capital A, which I often do, then my credibility will be restored!!! And at 54 years of age, and some hopeful credibility, I think this whole issue has gone into the sewer. If all it takes is a partial name change, to go from bozo to one with credible stature, then that ought to prove it!

"I have looked at the thread at the other site and I think the tone between the two is night and day. Those that can be objective go compare the two."I wonder what the tone of a thread at the other site would be if it made the claim that this site was the better of the two and the other was full of mean people with bad attitudes...

>>I wonder what the tone of a thread at the other site would be>if it made the claim that this site was the better of the two>and the other was full of mean people with bad attitudes...>>Talk about hitting the nail on the head!!!!L. bozo Adamson

FSAutoStartFS9 ConfiguratorAFCAD filesnumerous files for Fly!I'm not sitting on any files - I'm currently working on the sucessor to FSAutoStart.I guess I'm the exception.

"And at 54 years of age, and some hopeful credibility, I think this whole issue has gone into the sewer. I been involved with many commercial developers over the years including Microsoft as beta-tester, etc. When it comes to commercial developers, it's really walking a shaky fence when you try to ruffle the feathers of competing sim sites. More than not, a developer is usually prodominate at one site, but they need to sell their creations to consumers across all of the boards. Do YOU really want to create an Avsim versus Fligtsim com. mini battle, and possibly alienate many ( like as in thousands) of possible sales? As a business owner myself, I'd put a sock in your mouth, if I was a flightsim developer. Remember................ burning bridges usually does little good, in the long run! L.Adamson
