You're never too old...

Featured Replies

We just a never too young thread here.  Here's a never too old one.  At the risk of sounding like bragging dad I just got this from my youngest daughter...

Not going to lie...a little nervous...I mean who the hell signs up for their first 100 miler at 54

Bridget had been a runner since high school.  She used to run with me back then.

A few years ago she reached her goal of having run 25 marathons by her 50th birthday.  Since then she's added ultras (50 mile runs) to her repertoire.

This morning she was notified she has been selected to run in the Leadville 100 next summer.  A 100 mile run at elevations up to 13,000ft in the Colorado Rockies.  She's no stranger to it.  She paced a friend of hers through parts of two summers ago.

She turned 54 in December.

I have to admit to being a proud dad.

The tires are worn.  The shocks are shot.  The steering is wobbly.  But the engine still runs fine.

wow.  Quite an accomplishment.  I jog but not like that.

It takes everything you've got to do that. A good friend of mine had a very bad breakup with her Boyfriend a few years back and I had to take her to the police as he hit her and I was the first person she told. Anyhow part of her moving on was she was always a runner as well but she decided to buy a road bike for something new and ride her bike to work everyday. Then she started swimming and about a year after that breakup she ran her first Triathlon. A year after that she got on New Zealand's National Team and represented us overseas. Got her first trip to Canada and the USA as competed over there. I have mad respect for any woman who can dedicate herself to something like this and not let those other things in life get you down. I can fully understand you being so proud of your daughter as well, as I've said, mad respect for that.

My daughter is only 3 now so I've got years to go to see what she applies herself to. So far she has a keen ear for music and books.

I'm Dyslexic, what's an error to you is not to me

Quite a gal, your daughter!

Yeah, she is Sue.  And more than just a runner.

She's the CFO of a mortgage company in Colorado.  She once defended her company in tax court and won.  And she never went to college.  She's self taught.  I told l my kids that a degree makes it easier to get your foot in the door.  But once you're there demonstrated ability is what counts.  She decided to skip college and start demonstrating her ability.

And last August she took her old Dad to San Francisco for a father-daughter week-end.

We are very close.
