May 2, 200620 yr Using the default FS9 weather engine. How does one obtain the forcast for the detination city? Al Stiff
May 2, 200620 yr www.airnav.com is a quick one that I use when I'm getting charts at the same time. A TAF is what you're looking for. The METAR/TAF are on the right after you've selected the airport.www.aviationweather.gov is NOAA's site. Those should get you started. Jeff D. May 2, 200620 yr I thank you for the link's!Thing is FS9 default "real world" weather is not very up to date like the real world we see and I find the figures to be way off from the weather sites to FS9.I'm thinking of a proggy that can look inside FS to get my desination forcast, from within the game.Right now I listen to the ATIS and change my plan accordingly. Which is really a PITA when it's diffrent.Thanks. Al Stiff
May 2, 200620 yr You're better off to get Active Sky. That's what I use to generate the weather, then I print off the route weather before the flight. It works great that way.I use the above sites to forecast my arrival rwy's in general so I can load up the FMC and know what charts I might need ahead of time.Edit: Also, if you fly online you can get the metar of any airport while still in the cockpit. May 3, 200620 yr I use the ACARS device, if I'm using an aircraft on which I've gotten around to installing it on, that comes with FS Flightkeeper.... I use it in combination with Activesky 6, but it also works pretty well with FS9's default weather engine, fsmeteo and I think a couple others...Comes in quite handy, in that it also has airport information for easy retrieval, flight plan info, weather info, instant messaging with other FSFK users if desired, and more.... Possible downside is that FSFK is payware, but you do get a 30-day trial.... Declared weather: FSX: ASN / FS9: ASE
May 3, 200620 yr The only serious answer is get As6, as suggested :-)But if you want to try something with default, it seems to me that one thing you could do is set the rate of change in weather to zero (theres an option in the weather dialogue) when you load real weather. As I understand it this prvents MSFS from interpolating the waether over time. Then, when you are flying and want to know the weather at a destination, go to the weather menu, choose custom weather, select the nearest weather station to your destination, click on it and review the clouds, wind, pressure, etc tabs. These would be the same places you would change them if you were creating custom weather. Then clic cancel and continue. That said, i always thought it would be nice (and simple) to develop a little module that created a METAR for a location from the actual internal weather and popped it up onscreen
May 3, 200620 yr >Using the default FS9 weather engine. How does one obtain the>forcast for the detination city? The freeware program FSMetar does a pretty darned good job IMO. Easy to install and use, updated weather as you go, and you can type in the ICAO of your destination (in the top half "METARS Search" box) and get a current METARS readout and/or printout.http://personal.telefonica.terra.es/web/fsmetar/http://forums.avsim.net/user_files/148544.jpghttp://forums.avsim.net/user_files/148545.jpg
