My experience switching from 4 to 6 cores (P3D v4.1)

Recommended Posts

This summer I want to upgrade my 5820K  6 core processor running at 4.3 GHz.

A 8700 6 core processor might run at 4.7-4.8 Ghz in my system ( triple view which is more taxing ) .

However , Rob A has a very good experience with his 10 core 7900 x processor compared to his former 5960 , which is the same series as mine.

The larger the L2 + L3 cache the higher the framerate as it seems.

13900 8 cores @ 5.5-5.8 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.3 GHz (hyperthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D4 - GSkill Ripjaws 2x 16 Gb 4266 mhz @ 3200 mhz / cas 13 -  Inno3D RTX4090 X3 iCHILL 24 Gb - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 1Tb - Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Thermaltake Level 10 GT case - EKWB Extreme 240 liquid cooling set push/pull - 2x 55’ Sony 4K tv's as front view and right view.

13600  6 cores @ 5.1 GHz / 8 cores @ 4.0 GHz (hypterthreading on) - Asus ROG Strix Gaming D - GSkill Trident 4x Gb 3200 MHz cas 15 - Asus TUF RTX 4080 16 Gb  - 1x SSD M2 2800/1800 2TB - 2x  Sata 600 SSD 500 Mb - Corsair D4000 Airflow case - NXT Krajen Z63 AIO liquide cooling - 1x 65” Sony 4K tv as left view.

In both cases HT was off. No affinity mask.

Try with HT and AM 4052.

The benefit of two additional cores is that you can give the main P3D job and add-ons some breathing space.

Lets look at the attached picture from my current flight with FSLabs A320 and zoom to the Task Manager. Yellow-marked logical cores provide that breathing space. Notice, that the main P3D core is not completely used, which is some achievement with FSLabs. Without the affinity mask, the main P3D thread would take 100% of the first core. In my setup, masking-out the first physical core increased FPS with FSLabs by 20%. The reason for skipping the 6th logical core is this - when you combine threads of red and blue cores to one physical core (e.g. with AM 4084), the main P3D thread that runs on the red core will be throttled by the blue texture-loading thread. And why HT on? Look at the last six cores – they all work very hard to load those textures and they do it well, because this is a kind of task where HT technology is very efficient.

Ok have no 7900, have a7920  and testing a 7980xe

I have not seen big diff to a 7700k/5.2ghz compared  to a 5ghz  7920x or the 7980xe /4.8ghz

The 7700k was the fastest then 7920x and last the 7980xe when it mesure the framrate all inside 2% difference

Keep in mind that the 7980XE has a lot of cash

The moment I disabled HT and left out the AM , my terrain cores activity dropped a lot and the blurries I experienced near Frankfurt ( FTX Germany + AS Frankfurt + Heavy weather from ASP4 ) were gone ....

My core 0 during FS is 97-98% ..

I always used HT + AM up to V4.0 , but V4.1 is better of with all 6 cores on my system ...

Thanks Hasse.

The 7980 XE looks great , but it costs a lot ...

I have a triple view real size cockpit with the server running P3D and several Prosim and cockpit modules.

All other Prosim modules , AS + ASCA + PSXseeconTraffic on a cliënt pc.

I am curious about your 7970 XE findings and If it would be the processor for my triple view setup.
