And what exactly happens when you try to start the app? Nothing? No error Window, no entry in the Windows Event logs? Did you check the prerequisites (.Net 4.6.2)? Was it working before and just stopped? What happened inbetween? Did you install any new addons to the simulator? Did you edit any file anywhere manually? What about your AntiVirus - did that decide that it doesn't like the P4AO any more (check the AV history)? What Windows version are you using?

Yours would be the first computer where a simple app like this one cannot run, but if there isn't anything more to it, then I'm afraid there is nothing that I can do.

For the record: while you may have to run an app in admin mode, you should not install programs "As Administrator". That can go wrong.

LORBY-SI

I've tried to install As Admin...I will try to launch the install as normal mode and verify if it work.

I let you know tomorrow.

Thank Oliver!

Hi, I have the exact same problem.  I cannot make the app run.  I have followed every direction but it still does not work.  I will go back to the previous version I had (1_24)

Hi,

can you tell me what exactly was/is happening when it does "not run"? Nothing at all? Error message? Windows Event log? Which Windows version? Were you using admin rights (not that you should, I just need to know)? Did you install-uninstall-reinstall the 1.28 b4?

And does going back to a previous version work????

Oliver,  When I start the application there is a little flash on the screen as if the application screen will come up but nothing happens.  As I said before I followed every recommendation you provided, I uninstalled and re-installed running as admin,  I deactivated the antivirus just in case but nothing works.  I went back to 1.24 and it works perfectly.

I found this error log:

Faulting application name: P3DV4AddonOrganizer.exe, version: 1.28.4.0, time stamp: 0x5a8ed1d2

Hello Jose,

thank you. This is highly irregular, I have no idea currently. But there was an update to Visual Studio a few days ago that I have on one devel computer but not the other one. If I build a b5 real quick, would you be willing to check it out?

Can you please check the Windows Event log if there is something there? And what Windows version are you using? 7/8/10?

I'm on Windows 10 Home version 1709 fully updated.  I cannot find anything related on the Windows event log.

Thanks for your help.

Hello Jose,

I have built a 1.28 b5 and uploaded it to the Lorby-SI website. The only difference to the b4 is, that it was built on another computer. I would appreciate it, if you could try that one too, see if it makes a difference.

Best regards

Oliver, same issue with b5 but besides the Kernel error I shared before I got a new error in the log:

Hi,

OK, great, that looks a lot better.

You have an invalid exe.xml or dll.xml file somewhere in your P3D configuration (AppData\Roaming\ and/or ProgramData\), and that is what is tripping the 1.28, but not the 1.24 - because the previous versions were not looking for them.

Can I ask you to send me those files so I can check them out? My email address is on the last page of the users manual.

Many thanks and best regards

Sent.  Thanks Oliver.

Hi,

and answered. Your dll.xml was broken. Many thanks for helping with this!

@ll participants in this thread:

I have built a new version 1.29 of the P4AO that will catch errors in your dll/exe xml config files and display an error message (instead of crashing...).

Best regards

Hi Oliver!

I solved my problem...run installer normally (not As Admin) and now the software work well.

I have only a Allarm Message wen it start about simobject.cfgw with invalid characters and not visible contents

Hi,

that doesn't sound good. Seems like an addon installer has corrupted your simobjects.cfg, probably changed the character encoding. Or did you try to edit that file manually in the past?

I can take a look at that file if you send it to me (email address is at the end of the users manual). Be aware though that if it really was an installer, it can happen again any time. So it would probably be a better option if you know how to correct it yourself: open it with Notepad++ (advanced text file editor, freeware) and set the Encoding to "UCS-2 LE BOM". Make sure that the file looks alright - it has a really simple structure and you would notice out of place characters immediately.

Best regards
