Just got the 777 For Prepar3d...

...and the -300 Expansion. I have it FSX, but I hardly use FSX anymore. Put many hours in this plane in FSX, including a world tour. It's not my favorite, the 747 takes up most of my flying time now but...

Seeing this bird in Prepar3d, it's like I'm seeing it brand new all over again. It's not something I can put my finger on exactly. -Not one thing...Now I feel another world tour is in order!. And I also think I may actually tackle one(or more) of those polar routes!

I recently added ZBAA Beijing Capital to my sim world so my todo list includes a UAL B77W trip KORD-ZBAA.  It is actually flown by a B789 but I don't care, I notice some days this flight goes West over the pole (well 80N is close to the pole) but there are days when the trip is East and the difference between the two routes (planned routes not great circle routes) is only 300 nm.  That is pretty cool.

ACA 15 for me, CYYZ-VHHH Sometimes a 77L, sometimes a 77W. East or west, but almost always over the Pole.Incredible! -And I mostly fly the freighters. I thought I saw once where Southern Air, or AeroLogic flew a route close to the pole. More research...

I think (Air Canada?) flies CYVR (Vancouver, BC) to VIDP (New Delhi, India) with 787's, and that goes pretty close to right over the pole

I have the UA807 KIAD-ZBAA in progress, todays route takes us East (Westward would be the great circle route) past Thule over top of Greenland and Norway up to N87 30 E32 00 before turning SE.  Actual flight is a B788 but it is perfect for the new United B77W.

I remember seeing that Kevin! I'll have to purchase that one. I was also thinking of getting a dual Saitek throttle setup, and some 747 handles. Looks like I may get a set of 777 handles too.

Seems I read the Russians and Chinese use meters instead of feet to measure altitude. I always wonder how they coordinate with an adjacent facility that is using feet. As an old controller from days long gone seems like a built in confliction. Commies are always trying to mess us up.☺

I've not flown RW so I'm not guessing, but for my sim world I climb/descend as required to the desired flight level before entering the FIR with the different yardstick/meter.  I found a nifty pdf from Michael Krauss that provides the flight levels for metric, Russia and China (they are different of course) and standard foot for both RVSM and non RVSM airspace.  I presume the coordination between facilities is established by LOA or whatever you'd call an international agreement.
