PD3V4 Freeze & Crashing

Completed a few 4 to 6 hour flights with PDMG 747 previously after purchasing the program with no problems but lately system it's being freezing in different spots (after pushback, prior to Taxi to runway, after take off towards reaching cruise altitude a few times). Have change settings prior restarting the program and problem have occurred repeatedly. Only message that appears on screen (PD3V4 Not responding) on top of screen visible as it screen becomes frozen, turns whitish colored, and finally shuts down. Anyone having similar problems that could share some advise to correct such problem?. Additionally, GSX, FS2Crew and a few PD3 comparable airport scenery it's also used for the flights as well and are working just fine.

Find the crash information inside operating system application event viewer and post it here so we can have a look of what is the cause.

Hi Simbol, this it's all I was able to find in that matter and it looks like the crash was with the software not the Comp. Op. System.

I took some time to due the flight again 5ea different times and this times it freezes aprx. 45 minutes into the scenario, right about when pushback or during taxi.

Any suggestions?

One quick note Simbol!..Very strange but just yesterday completed a full 8 hours flight with no freezing or crash taking place. One thing done different was change of Livery. Does that makes sense?. Currently setting up to do another test flight equal timing. Lets see what happens...

That is very strange, unless the Livery has a corrupted texture.

It is hard to tell, you will need to test it further and repeat the fault in order to reach a more conclusive result.

Hi Fernandito,

I had the same problem with the PMDG 747 last December (P3Dv4.1) and could not complete a flight without a CTD and occasional freeze. That was the only airplane I had this problem with, PMDG 777, 737, FSLabs A320 and Majestic Q400 were all fine and I never had CTD with any of them. The same flight (SBGR - EDDF) with the PMDG 773 would get to the destination whereas the 744 (Lufthansa livery) would lead to a CTD in different locations on the route.

Lately (P3Dv4.2) I did LIMC to ZSPD on the PMDG 744 (Air China livery) and PHNL to YSSY (Qantas livery) and had no problem whatsoever. Which livery did you have your problem with?

Additionally, and this is obviously different from the above, would you mind sharing your P3D scenery list, it is quite possible that wrong priorities may lead to this sort of P3D behaviour.

It´s very, very, very unlikely if not even impossible that a computer freeze is related to a particular airplane livery.

In 99% of all cases a computer freeze is caused by unstable hardware and in 90% of that issues bad, sloppy overclocking (especially of the CPU) is the reason for such problems.
Did you overclock any of the components of your systems?

Thank you for your useful feedback Shlotterknie to be kept in mind. Yes my i7 8700K is OC at 4.5 and is very stable. I also reckon that if the LH livery was the culprit, more witnesses would be on the bench!...

This, however, begs the question as to why was this happening only with one plane (744) since using another (773) on the same route, same weather, same sceneries, same traffic, never reproduced a CTD and/or freeze?!

Beside, with the same OC but P3Dv4.2, I don't have this problem anymore... That's one of those mysteries we can spend hours debating and find no real evidence, only suspicions.

Having said that, perhaps your explanation is correct in the case of Fernandito, only he can confirm if this true, but he too seems to be having no issue with other planes or liveries. How can we explain that?

Simbol & Jean, I think I can now confirm that suspicion colleagues. The trouble was occurring repeatedly with livery (British Airways) then I switch up to another on three different 6 to 8 hour flights (Delta, Singapore, Northwest) and all worked excellent. No pauses or freezes occurred. Mind bottling ain'it?

At least now we are closer to a solution, some questions / suggestions:

1) Who provided the British Airways livery? PMDG or a third party?

2) Can you post all the Flight.X entries inside the Aircraft.cfg of this plane? maybe there is something is wrong the the declaration of the British Airways livery, repeated flight.X number, invalid characters on the title or other sections, etc.

3) It is posible the British Airways livery textures are corrupted and then when certain parts of the aircraft activate (APU, nav lights, cargo doors, etc.) P3D fails to read the texture file and it causes a CTD.

Try to re-download the textures and overwrite them to see if the problem goes away, if it doesn't and the livery was provided by PMDG then you should open a ticket with PMDG so they check this livery textures accordingly.

2. I am using Prepard3Dv4 not Flight X ( did I understood correct?)

I attempted a flight this past week again and it happened again with a (United) livery. Then used another livery (Lufthansa) and no crash occurred (KATL-EDDF) but lost the sound from FS2Crew and will consult with the techs on that matter today.

Will attempt to do that last flight again today with same livery to (KATL to EDDF) and see what emerges this time.

On point 2, I meant the Flight.X entry corresponding to the repaint that is causing the crash, you can find this inside the aircraft.cfg file.

To me either the entry is corrupted or the textures.

Hi Simbol;

Well it looks like the previous system problem still persist. It freezes on the 1st and 2nd attempt to complete a full flight. I have notice that on the 3rd attempt it I am able to continue the flight however, to much time has being consumed during attempts. The system continues to go on freeze mode aprx. 45 minutes from initiating on the ground. The system have gone into freeze mode either during pushback or taxiing to runway or after take off aprx. 5 into the flight. I did uninstalled all liveries and reload to test which ones were not working properly. Anyone have reported anything further similar to my scenario??...does it look like that must address this straight to PD3 techs on their website?

But I thought you discovered it was only one livery.

If this is the case, the problem is with the Airplane no P3D, so you must address that livery problem.

Did you ever contacted PMDG?
