June 2, 200620 yr Hi,I have been beavering away in the hope I could resolve this one myself, but so far no joy and I am becoming a little frustrated :(Recently I was forced into making the decision to upgrade (Motherboard and GPU failure) and in the end, and not wishing to bore you with the unpleasant detail, this developed into a total hardware rebuild, reformat and reinstall.Everything, including my FS9 installation which currently stands at >45GB, was backed up so I was hopeful I could at least recover my sim installation without too much hassle. Well it seems that even with this the gremlins are doing their level best to thwart my efforts. After Windows XP was reinstalled and SP2 plus all the updates applied, I reinstalled FS9 out of the box and updated it successfully to 9.1. I verified it loaded and ran correctly before renaming the root folder and reinstating my original >45Gig installation from backup. When I try to run my highly customized installation I see the following in turn:1. Level-D Sims ModuleBad licence for B767-3002. Unable to load some aircraft or software - you can continue using FS but this a/c or software will be disabled.File PMDGOptions.DLL3. Ditto above for Recorder.dll Now these errors didn't bother me unduly as I was expecting something like this as some 3rd party aircraft, etc will require to be reinstalled to re-establish their references in XP's registry before they will work again. Then the message I didn't want to see: Microsoft has encountered a problem and needs to close, etc, etc.Error Sig: Appname FS9.exe App Ver 9.1.0.4.901ModName: mfc70.dllModVer: 7.0.9466.0 Offset 0003ac97I am hoping some of you reading this will recognize this sequence of events, or something similar, and will be able to point out whatever it is I may have forgotten to do. Right at this moment in time the prospect of reinstalling everything just does not appeal and I am anxious to avoid this route with FS9 if at all possible.Windows XP let me down badly when I tried to upgrade the MoBo and despite all the preparation before the swap I was faced with an unhelpful STOP error that I just could not get around - hence the fresh install of the OS.Old System: P4 2.4GHz, Gigabyte GA-8IRXP, 1GB PC2100, ATI Radeon 9800 128MB, SB Audigy, Hitachi HDs all housed in a desktop case.New System: AMD Athlon64 X2 3800+, ASRock 939Dual-SATA2 (with latest BIOS), 2GB PC3200 DDR400, ATI Radeon Saphire X800XL (Omega 3.8.231), SB Audigy 2 ZS Platinum (not yet installed), WD Caviar 250GB S300 16MB, Antec P150 MiniTower with NeoHE 430W PSU.System is stable and 3DMark03/05 benchmarking suggests that it's roughly twice as fast as the old :) The plain vanilla install of FS 9.1 runs very smoothly, but then it did on my old system as well. So frustrating not to be able to run my highly customized FS9 setup. Can anyone help me please? Thanks,Mike
June 2, 200620 yr I am pretty sure that because you have altered the hardware so completely and re-installed Windows (therefore initializing the Registry), you will have to re-install any commercial add-ons so that license files and registry information can be re-created.I had to go through this tedious procedure last year when I got a new PC. Good luck! Graeme Butler

Good luck!Hi Graeme,I was expecting to have to do that anyway. Are you saying that FS9 will not run unless I go through this now? I had hoped I would be able to run the sim, but would be barred from using these addons until each had been reinstalled - something I had intended doing as and when it became necessary. What concerns me is that if I go through this process and FS9 still fails to load, I will have to repeat the exercise frequently as I troubleshoot the issue. In the event, is it likely I will run into problems with the licence providers? How often can you repeat these 3rd party reloads before you encounter resistance?Should I just concentrate on these three addons to begin with and see what transpires?BTW, thanks for your input.Mike
June 2, 200620 yr Hey Mike, I feel your pain. I just rebuilt as well. If you want to have everything go smoothly, Reinstall FS9, then the update, then move on to your scenery add-ons, then your AC. Forget trying to recover. You will end up with more problems than it's worth. I can tell you that from experience. I try not to think about it. It's been a month now and I'm still installing the final few things I forgot about. The main stuff shouldn't tke more than several days, depending how long you spend at a time. I would also suggest not installing too many things together all at once. Do a few, defrag, reboot, check to make sure things load ok, reboot and continue. I am OCD when it comes to my system and FS9 so I drive myself nuts making sure everything is just right. Most of the time spent will be getting keys again and contacting vendors if you lost anything. My procedure may not work for everyone, but I think it makes sense. I wish you all the best in your quest. Keep us posted.
June 2, 200620 yr Have you "set aside" the three DLLs in question, perhaps along with the relevant AC folders to see if you can then run FS?I keep a sub folder under Modules I named "Holding". I move DLLs there that I may not always use (dbs Walk and Follow, FS Connect, even Recorder)If you do that and it doesn't start, well, keep going. If it does start it answers your question and you can focus there.Feel your pain - been down the similar road too.Good luck.Joe Lorenc Joe Lorenc
June 2, 200620 yr Mike,Starting from scratch is a pain but worth in the long run. You should delete your reinstall of FS9 including your FS9.cfg files. Manually get rid of the whole directory of FS9 when you are done otherwise most of the stuff is still there.Reinstall FS9 and the patch. It should run fine at this point although you will have to set your sliders and other preferences. Then you can install your add=ons one at a time. DO NOT COPY FROM ANY OTHER DIRECTORY TO FS9. THIS WILL CAUSE NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS. Just install like when you first did. It will take some time so you may want to start with your favorites. Our systems are similar and I had to do this just before Christmas and it took me several weeks to sort it all out. I started with the basics such as Ultimate Traffic. Then the various PMDG in the sequence they recommend. Then on to LDS and Flight One aircraft. Then PSS 777. Ooops, almost forgot Flight Environment and Editvoice Pack. I am sure I have missed some but I fly and have a good time now at faster speeds. DO NOT TRY TO COPY FILES FROM AN OLD SETUP OF FS9. YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGHT THE INSTALLS.
June 2, 200620 yr Mike,You should be able to run FS9 if you remove all the offending add-ons. I had no trouble re-installing my stuff, it just took a long time :-(A lot of commercial add-ons also put license files in different folders (not just the FS9 folder) like in C:Windows, or C:Flight1, etc. and these files are uniquely tied to the hardware, so you cannot just copy them from one machine to another. In your case:1. Level D 767 is a Flight 1 product and you should just run the Wrapper program again to create a new installer and license file. I think you can run it about three or four times, then you must apply for a new license. I have never had a problem with the Flight1 system.2. PMDG will also need to be re-installed. Should not be a problem as far as I can remember.3. Don't know what recorder.dll is - sorry! Graeme Butler
June 2, 200620 yr (edited for ridiculous censoring)>What concerns me is that if I go through this process and FS9>still fails to load, I will have to repeat the exercise>frequently as I troubleshoot the issue. In the event, is it>likely I will run into problems with the licence providers?>How often can you repeat these 3rd party reloads before you>encounter resistance?I apologize for being off topic, but reading the above I couldn't help but wonder: wasn't there a time once where people would feel that having paid good money for a product they should be entitled to using it as often as they see fit?Brave new world. That said I think your FS crashes because of one or all of the module loading errors. Reinstalling the two mentioned planes and removing the recorder.dll for now might help. Then again it might not, no one can say for sure. If you want a fall back you should at least make another backup copy of your 45 GB FS folder before trying.Regards,http://www.bremmekamp.com/img/misc/avsim.jpg
June 2, 200620 yr Author Well, I seem to be making some progress :)I decided to preserve my 2 installations of FS9:1. The fresh Install which is forming a base for the rebuild.2. A copy of my original complete install.By a process of elimination I renamed folders from (1) in turn as 'XXX_default' and copying across folders of the same name from (2). I then check to see the sim runs following each copy process. So far, by referencing the paths in Scenery.cfg from (2) I have copied across:Addon Scenery, Scenery, Textures, Landclass Addons, UK2000 scenery, LAGO, SCENEDB, Visual Flight, FSAddon, Georender, Addon mesh, FSGenesis mesh, Aerosoft and VOZ.The sim loads and runs without errors and I appear to be able to load flights in different areas without any problems arising. Now that is a relief! We all know what a pain it is to configure and troubleshoot scenery following installation of the various 3rd Party addons. At this point I tried substituting FS9.cfg from (2) with an updated display entry, but no joy - FS9 crashed - so that needs some further thought.FSUIPC[/b has been transferred and seems okay.I copied over the [b]Gauges folder - okay.I then copied across the Modules folder but FS9 would not run until I moved all the 3rd Party dlls into a holding folder for further reference when I come to reinstall their source software. The RealAir C172, Decathlon, SF-260 and Spitfire all work fine following transfer of their respective folders - thank you RealAir for making my life just that little bit easier :)My installation-in-progress is now 33GB and I appear to be in a position to enjoy all the scenery once again. I have copies of all the links to various texture switchers and, because the drive references have not changed, most appear to be still working.Still a long way to go, but at least I can enjoy the sim once again.Mike
