June 6, 200619 yr Apparently a couple of new sceneries for Atlanta (KATL) have been released in the past few days. One of them (atlanta10.zip at flightsim.com, I think it is) claims that three parallel runways will work simultaneously, and I've seen it reported on other forums that it works. Everything I've read on the subject says it shouldn't, because FS basically uses the two outer runways regardless.Another one, katl.zip on avsim.com, has new roadways and such, but I haven't heard anything about it.Jim Vile's one looks great, but the framerates hurt and I don't want the two new terminals in place.Any recommendations?
June 6, 200619 yr icebrain,I'm using Dakota Smith's scenery and have been very happy with it thus far (well I'm biased though :) Dakota and I fly for DVA). In the past I've used both Bill Molony's sceneries and Jim Vile and were happy with both. Jim's scenery didn't seem to affect FPS on my system very much. I haven't tried the one with the I-285 tunnel yet or Brittany's. All three look very nice though. I just wish I could have gotten Bill's Stone Mountain stuff to work. I was getting some bad flickering possibly due to a conflict with UT USA and BEV. It was some great looking scenery though and I may try to play with it a bit.And thank you both to Bill Molony and Jim Vile. I've really enjoyed your freeware sceneries over the past year and appreciate all the time you guys put it to making these. Blake Blake
June 7, 200619 yr I tried the South Productions (DAKOTA) scenery and while it is very nice, it completely lacks gate numberings and there are no taxiway signs for the new 10/28 runway but taxiway signs DO exist for the other runways. I will stick with my payware Simflyers KATL for now until the above issues are addressed.John I love flying my "iddy biddy Jumbo" CPU: Intel Core 2 Duo E8400, socket 775/3GHz/1333MHz bus/6MB cache MOBO: Asus P5E3 Deluxe WiFi-AP@n/Intel X38 chipset RAM: 4GB Kingston HyperX 1333MHz. rated 7-7-7-20, matched pair (2 x 2GB) GRAPHICS: Sapphire Radeon 5770HD 1GB (w/ fan) MONITOR: Samsung 24", 2494HM LCD wide-screen 1920x1080 SOUND: SoundBlaster Audigy 2 ZS HARD DRIVES: 1xWestern Digital WD1600JD SATA 160GB (primary/Windows XP and system boot drive) 1xWestern Digital WD3200AAJS SATA2 320GB (secondary/Flight Simulator 2004 running off WinXP Pro 32-bit, games video editing drive) 1xWestern Digital 500GB Black series SATA2 (Windows 7 64-bit: FSX is running off Win7; Windows XP Professional 32-bit) CASE: Antec Sonata III 500W OS: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit for FSX; Windows XP Pro 32-bit for other things.
June 7, 200619 yr I live in Atlanta and Bill Molonys work from FS2002 is by FAR..the best Atlanta scenery available. I have done a lot of personal tweaks to the area and have it looking pretty good except for the fact that Bills shopping malls all seem to float. Cumberland and Perimeter malls are the worst. Wish I knew how to flatten them out.Otherwise, downtown ATL is awesome. I had to create some exclude files for some buildings that were duplicated from the default, but otherwise, great. Also did some afcads for Dobbins and for Fulton County.I use the default KATL scenery as I dont like the bandwidth hit on simflyers stuff (I own 2 or 3 of them.) I dont mind the default KATL scenery with my own afcads. But...I would like to find a good new afcad that has the 10/28 runway. AND
June 7, 200619 yr Considering that it seems that the ENTIRE DAL fllet seems to be at ATL at any given time, it's fun. It's mostly that the TOC is there and all of the heavy maintainance is performed there. Lots of idle aircraft relative to other airports. It's just that there is the super base there for work. They even do their own paint there.I can say that having flown DAL in the past 2 weeks (BOS-CVG-SFO-CVG-PVD) tehre are very few aircraft on the ground at outstations now. There was a B764 overnighting at SFO- I took the redeye home through CVG that night.Boston only had a handful of aircraft when I was there at 5PM (3 M88's, 3 752, 2 738 and a CRJ)
