Dreaded texture cross returns - desperate to fix this!

Featured Replies

Hallo Avsimmers http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/aktion/a...-smiley-030.gifI have asked on here for help with this matter a while ago and after that thread I was able to find a fix by replacing the OceanHeight.bmp file. The dreaded texture cross (DTC) has returned to ruin my water effects. For all this time the sim has behaved itself and I have enjoyed great water effects thanks to the OceanFX utility. Now the DTC has come back with a vengeance to give me this rubbish again:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Thr...crossSmallJ.jpgIm at my wits end this time because replacing OceanHeight.bmp has not fixed it for me. Neither has anything else (replacing the Texture file with a backup copy etc). I bought Ground Environment (GE) recntly but that does not affect water does it? I reinstalled the default files using the GE interface but no luck.Suddenly once again flying in FS9 looks horrible due to this silly cross following me....I know its a feauture of the FS9 texure-renderer as a fellow Avsimmer told me but it was not *noticeable* before. To see what I mean look at the water in this screenshot of mine before the DTC arrived:http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v630/Thr...eUp/Waterok.jpgThe water is perfect! No DTC.Please would anyone know why this keeps making itself more visible all of a sudden! Have any of you found a workaround? Did getting payware 3rd party apps (FS Water, Flight Environment) help? I'd be huuugely grateful for any input because this is a real downner having to fly with that ...thing http://www.planet-smilies.de/kaos/CreamPuffKaos/pcrying.gifThank you

Wow, thats a new one for me. You say this follows you around?

Yea it follows the plane! As you fly you want to enjoy the view but this silly thing follows you.....part of FS9s rendering engine. You have it as well...its jut not noticeable on your system...which is the way it was on mine :(

Have you recently installed any MegaScenery titles?

Jtek...no I havent. Most recent install was Ground Env! :)

I believe that "cross" is a "feature". It is related to the area in which the water class textures (001b2wa1.bmp - 060b2wa1.bmp) are drawn. If you drop down, you should be able to see more crosses where different mip levels are used. The area outside of the cross is a generic texture. The same thing can happen over land. I don't know why there is so much contrast between the cross and the outside textures on your system. scott s..

That is most interesting Scott, thanx! I will look into that folder (C:Program FilesFlight Simulator 2004SceneryWorldtexture right?) now!! Wonder if I can fiddle with them to lessen the contrast.....:)

I too think the cross is a "feature". ?? I have seen it before, with various water effects files when vis was high. If you have a realistic visibility setting and horizon blend files, you really won't see that. In your screenie it looks like unlimited or anyway at least 50+ mile vis.BTW, nice plane. Virgin Nigeria A320. I have that one too. I like the paint scheme.Rhett

>Jtek...no I havent. Most recent install was Ground Env! :)ThrottleUp:The reason I asked was because I recently read an article in ComputerPilot Magazine (an excellent journal of Flightsimming, btw) regarding a similar symptom caused by installation of MegaScenery Northern California. I'll paraphrase what the reviewer wrote since it might apply to your own system for some reason (even if you didn't install MegaScenery):------------------------Basically, the reviewer allowed MegaScenery to alter his configuration. As a result, he ended up with an area of about 5 or ten miles under his plane that was considerably brighter than the surrounding scenery. It was, in his own words, "like I had this huge spotlight on the bottom of my plane".In short, he went over to sim-outhouse.com and found out it was a common problem caused by some MegaScenery titles; it was something to do with a the program replacing the default detail1.bmp, a file that's utilized when "the texture detail slider is turned on". He ended up searching his FS9 disks for the appropriate file and replaced it. Voila.. the "spotlight" under his plane was gone.-------------------------This may or not help you, of course. But, after all, it might come in handy for others that read this thread. Hope you get it solved!Regards,JTEK99

Now thats something Im definetly gonna look into Jtek! I wonder what he replaced it with!...perhaps he just tweaked the existing file? Thank you all very much for your replies...lots of material to work on.Dratted texture cross http://www.clicksmilies.com/s0105/sauer/angry-smiley-053.gif

No problem. Hope you solve it!

Hi All,What you might want to try is replacing your detail1.bmp file from your CD.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development TeamActive Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter
