Selecting aircraft very slow in loading - advice?

Featured Replies

Hi guys,My FS9 takes a good 30 seconds to get to the point where I can select another aircraft. Any advice why this might be happening?I have alot of Project AI installed, does it have to traverse through all of those folders?I have maybe 20 planes installed on top of the default. Thanks,

Hi,If the planes are visible in the menu, then it has to go through them each time. To make them invisible use BBQHide, AITM, or AirEd to change them. In AirEd change the aircraft type from 0 to 2. In AITM choose Tools/Aircraft Editor and change the Flyable box.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___

Yes it's going through all your AI as well. I have this happen too. You can use AirED to edit the .air files of your AI so that FS will skip reading each one in the selection menu. It's a bit laborious if you have lots of Ai running though. Also it's worth be really ruthless and remove the flyable planes you never really fly :-)

Thanks guys, that worked great! Now it only takes 1-2 seconds!

My FS9 takes a good 30 seconds to get to the point where I can select another aircraft.Boy a lot of us would love to get down to that time !!! Hangers full of payware we don't fly often enough to justify the costs. But as Tom said - you want to make AI aircraft invisible in the select aircraft screen. That really slows down loading the screen.

Hi,Also, if in the future you install more PAI sets, there is an option during installation to "make invisible" which you should set to On. That way you don't need to go back and do all this!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/

Please correct if I'm wrong, which appears I am. I thought you could remove aircraft from the FS menu from within the aircraft.cfg? I seem to remember someone asking why they could NOT see aircraft in the FS menu and were told to change a specific line in the aircraft.cfg.Craig, which program did you use. I just looked at all three and they all look old and not current.Regards,SD

Hi SD,Nothing in the .cfg file can be changed to accomplish this. This is why a utility must be used and not NotePad or WordPad.All three will do the job at hand. It doesn't matter if they all look old and not current, they get the job done!Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://dot.kelder.net:8080/fseconomy/

Thanks Jim. I used AITM and it worked. I also cut and pasted unused aircraft to a Hangar folder. FS loads much faster now.SD
