Plane spotting suggestions in NY

Featured Replies

Hi!  I want to do something special and fun to do for my husband’s upcoming bday in June. To say he’s obsessed with aviation is putting it lightly. He holds a PPL and works in the Private Jet industry. I’d love to take him someplace for lunch plane spotting with our 2yo. Any suggestions around KHPN?  An hours drive preferred.

Thanks!

Anything happening at Westchester County Airport?  Maybe a nearby restaurant for lunch and watch aircraft?  My brother-in-law and his family are from the Town of Harrison, so I've been to that area of New York.  I think I would avoid KJFK at all costs.

P.S. Welcome to the AVSIM forums.😄

Just going to run a Chromebook and not upgrade to a Windows computer. Too many problems with the new Sims! 😱
Trying to keep peace and harmony and the will of Landru on the site seems to be a full time job!

Hi FlyGuysWifey,

Welcome to the boards - as a pilot out of KMGJ and KMSV - I think I know the local haunts quite well...

If you don't mind - light - aircraft traffic - should be some on a nice weekend now... Nu Cavu @ Kobelt Airport would be my first choice - the food is a step above normal pilot chow - and the runway's a stones throw from the restaurant. It also makes for a nice day in the country... They have outside dining if the weather in amenable... Plenty of grass for a two year old to run around in... On Friday evenings - the nearby dropzone unloads the last planes of the day over Kobelt and the skydivers land there - done that as well... It's a fun place to hang out and everyone is very friendly... Probably pretty dead during the week though...

Best of luck...

If you do happen to be near JFK, head to the Bayhouse Restaurant.  Little known eatery on the approach path to JFK with spectacular views of oncoming aircraft.  It's very busy on weekends, but sparse on weekdays.    http://www.bayhousebar.com/

"The aircraft G-limits are only there in case there is another flight by that particular airplane. If subsequent flights do not appear likely, there are no G-limits."
