I was considering messing around with Prepar3d, I have v2.5 from awhile ago and thought that perhaps it might be worth upgrading, and I was also wondering if there was a list of add ons that are compatible from FSX?

there is no list. Each dev  treats the product differently, some have free upgrade, others a reduced price. Just contact the developer.

No discount. It's a different version. Just as you pay full price when upgrading from, for example Office 2013 to Office 2016.
