It's also worth noting that the descent of the Apollo 11 lander (Eagle) to the surface of the Moon was tracked by the Jodrell Bank radio telescope! Frequent flyers are exposed to radiation which I did not know until after I became a million mile flyer sometime in the 2000's. How high is the risk of cancer? My father flew as much as I did, and passed from cancer whereas everyone else in his family lived a long life on the male side. I try not to worry because I enjoy the memories of being a road warrior so much, but frequent flyers are exposed to such radiation. On top of that I was horribly sunburned as a child, exposed to second hand smoke. Wow, I am a walking time bomb, lol. But I fear not, death is a part of life and I know there is something after, having been raised in the faith, and I believe that is true for almost all of us, I am not a believer in hell, because parts of my life have been hell and I have lived thru it, especially my childhood illnesses. I was told I would never fly a plane but I proved them wrong, my Mom was astounded and afraid when my wife bought me my Light Sport flying lessons as a Christmas Gift in 2005. I did not solo though, I felt I lacked the confidence needed for landing in crosswinds, and after I considered the expense of flying fixed wing I went to Trikes, which I just took to like a duck to water. But I do not own one, only fly with friends from time to time, flying for me, except for simming, is no fun alone in real life. Wow I digress! I could not sleep tonight due to a headache, so here I am online. John
October 20, 20187 yr Moderator I bet not a lot of people know that Concorde had a cosmic radiation meter. It flew up to FL600 and was exposed to rays far more than subsonic aircraft. I believe it never got high enough for action to be taken. Ray (Cheshire, England). I didn’t know that, although to be honest, I don’t really know a whole lot about the Concord. Thanks for the interesting piece of information. Avsim Board of Directors | Avsim Forums Moderator
