So how is the performance when compared to P3D version, is the Aerofly version has much much higher fps?

Lol, the Aerofly version is imho, better quality than the p3d version and will easily run at 200 fps if you want it to.

One drawback though: stutters. Up to now you only had a stutter every now and then, sometimes like 10 minutes apart, whenever new objects were being loaded, like when you got close to a big city. These stutters were pretty apparent but very few. However, TrueEarth has so much detail that objects in the distance are being loaded almost all the time. Which means you also can get stutters very frequently. Like a few per minute. Just as with P3D stutters not everyone is bothered by them, of course. They can be pretty annoying imho though.

So while performance is really STUNNING and completely and utterly incomparable to TE in P3D (it doesn't even come CLOSE!), this shows that progress in AFS2 DOES have side effects. Everyone expected performance to go down at one time and that didn't happen yet (although of course fps is lower above TE but still high enough) but stutters are here... and for now they are here to stay, at least above extremely dense scenery as this one.

Another drawback and side effect: loading times. AFS2 was known for extreme quick loading times, like 5 seconds or so from start until you were in the cockpit, but with TE it's taking me 35 to 40 seconds before I am in my plane. (I am using an SSD btw.) Still not as bad as other sims but... it's a huge difference and also in this regard it shows that the superb performance of AFS has its limits.

BTW I don't use VR but I am also reading about performance struggling in VR, specially when you use high RSF settings. It is already not always possible to simply set all sliders full right: you may have to lower some settings. Again, there is a limit to everything and so also to the performance of AFS2. Obviously this also depends on your hardware. I can still run everything fully maxed easily on a 1920x1080 screen with a GTX1080.

I find the frame rates in VR are dependent not only on your system, but on your choice of API. For me, opengl is still much faster in VR then the still experimental vulkan API.

I would also say that at least on my system, vulkan tends to be less affected by those very tiny loading hiccups, which in my case are only noticeable if you're looking for them.

Finally, for people who still find themselves struggling I would suggest lowering Shadows to below insane settings, if you don't have a 1080 .

That returns quite a bit of FPS.

Also in Vulkan?

If you have them enough to notice, then you will likely have them in Vulkan. I would add some perspective though, with a video in which one can see exactly what we are talking about here, lest imaginations run wild.

Look very closely.

Agreed.....it’s barely noticeable on my installation. I use Vulkan and run from a regular spinning 7200rpm hd so you would think it would be bad on my end.

Just gave TE a try in VR (reinstalled my Rift for this purpose) and I have to say it's a pretty nice experience. It's fun flying at 2000 ft over your home country. Performance is struggling a bit: I had to set RSF to 1.5 (I used to use 2.0) and repositioning often results in very bad performance but restarting the sim usually helps in that case. Sometimes I even have a very short 'blackout' but in between those problems and the occasional stutter the experience is nice. Despite the low resolution and everything else I don't like about VR. 😉 As long as you are simply sightseeing VR is okay! Flying over Rotterdam with all that detail as far as you can see if pretty awesome! Orbx did a pretty good job on this one. I also like the colors of this scenery. (I still fly with the glass kicked out of the C172!) All in all it's something nice to do in between my Q400 flights in P3D (on a screen)!

On my system, I find this particular scenery does better in OpenGL

And yes, 1.5 is safer.

Still it's something that I at least find remarkable that this is faster and more detailed in Vr than its counterpart is in 2D!

By the way, I would also add that those flying in VR and using the Oculus Tray Tool should either disable ASW globally, or create an Aerofly profile and disable it there, as ASW can interfere with Aerofly framerates in VR.
