I also have the 747v3 for FSX and have recently upgraded to p3dv4 because of OOM issues, so I bought the 747v3 for P3D as well (you people make your planes entirely too awesome - you're costing me a lot of money 😉 ). 

I can't set the IRS position in the pos init screen of the FMS. 

In the FSX version I click GPS POS, which copies the coordinates to the scratch pad, and then I click SET IRS POS, which copies the scratchpad to the IRS POS field.

Under the P3Dv4 version, that's not working. It copies GPS POS to the scratchpad fine, but it won't go into the IRS POS field. Is this some sort of intended interface change for the P3D version, or is something wrong?

You might be used to instant alignment in FSX.. check your IRS Alignment option, it may be set to the default realistic and that can take 6 or more minutes depending on how far from the equator you happen to be.

Nope, I had it set to realistic in FSX too. I'm weird and like things as close to real as possible even if it means I twiddle my thumbs waiting. 😉

 

APU or Ground power? Is something like a third party utility possibly interfering?

Well I went away from the sim for awhile, and when I fired it up again, it's working. How odd. There must've been something configured in the original panel state that made the FMS behave unexpectedly. Sorry to bug you all.

The IRS position is probably already inserted if you are using the original default panel state (i.e with engines running and the aircraft already on the runway).  If you see this problem again try turning off all three IRS switches and then back on again to start the whole alignment process and data input from scratch.
