Problem after Installing Polish Airports

Featured Replies

Is there any way to get P3Dv4 started after a complete fresh re-install, in say, a kind of Safe Mode? Reason I ask, is, after that disaster with DD's Polish Airports Vol1 that locked up a perfectly working P3Dv4  sim, 6 hours after I return to my PC, P3Dv4 is still stuck on the splash screen!!

So, my last resort is seek advice back here or, I just face up to it, take it on the chin, call it a total loss of the the vast amount of money I have spent on sims, developers' products ranging from the top end of the tree to the bottom end, since FS95 to date ,and pack it all in.

Enough is enough.

try removeing your scenery.cfg(put it on your desktop or something) from \Users\USERNAME\AppData\Roaming\Lockheed Martin\Prepar3D v4 then try reloading your sim. If it works theres an error in your scenry.cfg, probally the scenry your talking about if it only started happening since then.

Hello Rick

Have you managed to get Prepar3D working again ?

Having you tried Clicking and Draging  both the terrain.cfg file and the scenery.cfg file out of the ProgramData location and onto your desktop ?   This will temporarily disconnect your scenery Add On's from Prepar3D

Does this work ?

Next: Navigate to the location below and Click and Drag the  "Prepar3D v4 Add-ons"  folder out of this location and onto your desktop

PC > Documents > Prepar3D v4 Add-ons

Does this work ?

Thanks, Elaine.

Only just seen your post now as I had to go away. Will try your tips now.

I stand up and take a bow to you, and to anyone else that suggested what Elaine suggested.

Moved the terrain.cfg and scenery.cfg, and Addons folder as you suggested, fired up P3Dv4, holding my breath...........................and voila!

.........................P3Dv4 is back up and running.

Once more, Elaine, I am indebted to you and left gob-smacked.

Not to sound too cynical, but do you think this issue could effect just a small amount of users, or just your self? I find it highly unlikely that a product that has been on the market for quite some time all of a sudden has the ability to mess an install up without it not being common knowledge.

Just my opinion as warning a large community this size to avoid a developers entire catalogue because of one persons issue can have quite a negative impact.

So, on that basis, how come add-ons ranging from PMDG, FSL,UK2000,FSDT, Flightbeam, LatinVFR, TropicalSim, Aerosoft, HiFi,etc, etc ,even Thai Creations,  all  installed without causing the sim to be brought to its knees by one particular developer's product?

- It could be because every system is different.
- It could be due to a file corruption error during the download.
- It's most likely to be an error during the install process, with Windows access rights, Anti-Virus program, or decompressing of the files in the installer throwing a wobbly.

Any of those could be the cause, or something else entirely.

I have previously had corrupted scenery.cfg  and terrain.cfg files from two different developers - it just happens!

There has been a thread about P3D hanging on the splash screen due to incorrect path / empty scenery folders since v4.3 became available - this is likely to be why you waited 6 hours for P3D never to start properly.

Seriously, take a look at Lorby's *Free* add-on organiser, it has built-in functions that can highlight potential problems with add-on installations before you start tearing your hair out.

Another valid way of looking at it. Well argued.

Good points.

Have downloaded Lorby's Tool eons ago but never ever got around to using it. Salutary lesson learned.

Thanks,737NG.
