Airport Location Wrong on Nav Displays

Featured Replies

Hello All,

I flew a route from VTBD to ZSOF today while taking the ILS DME runway 32 into ZSOF, lining up on the localizer (which actually couldn't engage and went into 'back course' mode) only to find the actual default FSX airport 13NM to my 7 o'clock 😲 and no airport ahead of me. It seems the PMDG nav data has the Hefei (Luogang) Airport 13NM away from where PMDG Nav Data has it located I noticed this issue with another Chinese airport a few months ago. Has anyone experienced issues with this and was able to find a fix?

PMDG NGX Version: 1.20.8885

NAVIGRAPH AIRAC: 1810

FSX Steam Edition

It’s not Navigraph. The problem is that the default scenery in FSX and FSX-SE dates from 2006.

The Luogang airport in Hefei no longer exists. It was replaced by the new Xinqiao International airport. Construction began in 2008, and the airport opened in 2013, at which time the ZSOF airport identifier was transferred to the new facility.

It’s a similar situation to when the new Hong Kong International airport replaced Kai Tak, and took the VHHH identifier.

The new Hefei airport is indeed about 13 miles from the original airport.

You would need to look for either payware or freeware scenery updates that would add the new ZSOF airport to your FSX installation. You could search the Avsim file library for “ZSOF”, and you would likely find something.

A similar problem probably affects the other Chinese airport you mentioned.

I flew from PANC to VTBS Bangkok mimicking a FDX flight only to find there was no default airport.  Same thing.  A large international airport now exists where none existed in the original scenery.
