FSX box activation issue

Why do i always get the server can't be reached try later when i try to activate FSX box? This started about a year ago. I am sick of using the phone system.

I am using FSX box with a separate Acceleration box. So this is not gold edition which included both in 1 box.

And this is for W7 and is not the W10 issue. Windows 10 your forced to use the phone system after ACC is installed because it will say activated as long as your online. But if your offline it will ask everytime you restart the sim.

So both windows 7 and 10 have issues now.

I had to reactivate FSX+Acc (separate boxed) few months ago after changing the motherboard and I think (but am not completely sure) that online activation worked for that. I only had to use the phone activation for Windows 7 itself.

Unfortunately that's quite common, but doing it over the phone once may unlock online activations again for the next time, unless your hardware changes too much or the next activation is too soon or something like that. I don't know the exact rules, if they change over time, and they may even be different for retail and OEM versions.

There is a thread in the main FSX forum about this. Apparently others are having the same problem with the online activation servers.

The phone activation still works according to one user.

I just finished building new computer for FSX.  Installed Windows 7 professional.  Installed a boxed MFS Gold Edition of FSX and Acceleration.  I have had this addition since it was purchased new around 2013.  Installed on two other computers without problem.  This time FSX installed and activated: No problem.  However Acceleration will not activate.  Activation screen comes up, I enter the activation code from from my boxed copy and get an error that says : you have exceeded the allowed number of activations.  I have only used the software four or five times so excessive activations does not seem correct.  I realize my issue is little different and I am late to reply but any help would be appreciated.

I fear that four or five times actually is the allowed number of activations.

Yes, the number is way too low to be considered a friendly limit, but some other companies have the same limit, some even lower (1 or 2 activations). The easiest way to solve this would probably be to buy the Steam edition when it is on sale, see e.g. https://isthereanydeal.com/game/microsoftflightsimulatorxsteamedition/history/ for a history of previous discounts.

(alternatively buy a different/newer simulator, but of course that would be a bigger undertaking)

ThomasAH,

Thanks for your reply,  I have FSX on my steam account and may have to go that direction.  Also am considering buy boxed version.  They can be found on Amazon and Ebay but hoped that would not be necessary.

Just FYI, Pete Dowson (of FSUIPC fame) recommends the Steam version of FSX over the boxed version.
