August 10, 200619 yr I took a look through some of the ini files and discovered this line:TEXTURE_BANDWIDTH_MULT=0That does not look right. Now, this may be different for FSX, but FS9 came with that set to 60, and common wisdom for FS9 says to raise that. In my FS9 I've got that set at 200. I got a noticable FPS increase after changing that in FSX config files. And in case you missed it in the other thread, a fix for the transparent AC problem (AC from FS9/FS2k2 with alpha showing up transparent) was found. Just copy envmap.bmp from FS9Texture to FSX DemoTexture."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."
August 10, 200619 yr >Where exactly did you find this file with the settings? At the same place as FS9 but then FSX/fsx.cfgAndr André
August 10, 200619 yr I looked in the place where I thought it would be but there's only a dll.xml file in that folder. (Application Data -> Microsoft -> FSX)
August 10, 200619 yr Oh whoops I found it. I was looking in the FSX folder and I didn't even see the FSXDemo folder right next to it :)
August 10, 200619 yr For those that haven't found it yet, here's where the FSX.cfg file (and other stuff) gets stored:C:Documents and Settings{username}Application DataMicrosoftFSXDemoAnother file of interest in FSXDemoControls is "Standard.xml" which seems to be the joystick/keyboard mapping file. (That data was stored in the FS9.cfg.) Might be possible to remap controls by changing it, but I haven't tried that. Also, config files you save get stored in a Flight Simulator X Files folder in My Documents by default. (Same place FSX flights get saved.) Some of the same settings can be found in both the fsx.cfg file and user saved files. And you can load a different user saved config on the fly to immediately test changes."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."

August 11, 200619 yr Hmmm, how about 32KB less space for addons? The file doesn't exist (at least in the demo) so you're not replacing an old file with a new one. The FSX aircraft seem to use a different system for reflections."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."
August 11, 200619 yr I raised it to 200, and then later raised it to 500. (Didn't see any difference above 200 for me.) Somehow it's gotten set back to 0, but I changed it back to 200 in the main config and the "test" config I've been using. Now I need to restart FSX Demo (I'd quit it a bit ago to do other stuff) and see how well it runs."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."

August 11, 200619 yr And, apparently, every time you save a setting config file. So maybe it's not being used after all. Between this and the non-responsive sliders, this is getting confusing. I could have sworn that was the only thing I changed a while ago when I suddenly got a big preformance boost."Let me help you out. You're cleared to taxi any way you can to any runway you see."
August 11, 200619 yr I set it to 400, and definitely got a performance boost. I was able to set the water settings much higher, go to a higer resolution, and crank up some other settings, so it did make a difference for me. Made the demo much more enjoyable, especially reducing the blurries textures big time. This is the tip of the day in my opinion.Brian S.
