Is Active Camera Obsolete?

Featured Replies

Hello again everyone,Another question has occurred to me.One of the confirmed enhancements in FSX is a much better camera/view system, but I have seen no specifics regarding the additional functionality it provides. I'm wondering if there will still be a need for Active Camera? If Active Camera is now obsolete, I hope that they were paid handsomely by MS for their contribution to the sim. Up until now at least, AC has been a must-have accessory for most users.Does anyone have any info on this?-Rick

Active Camera is an add on and MS didn't just buy the code and put it into FSX. They developed the new one. Search the forum and you will know. And I don't think Active Camera will be obsolete, they will probably think of some new ideas and release it again for FSX.

God I hope it becomes obsolete, it seems like every other flight the mouse wheel used to pan around gets "stuck" and I have to completely quit out of FS to get it unstuck. At the same time, the program is basically necesarry. I'd be glad to be rid of it.

I hope in FSX you can setup various cockpit "views" on a per aircraft basis and quickly switch to them... eg Throttle quadrant, Overhead, Glareshield etc

I'm sure MS could have purchased it if the price was right. It would have been a valid way to add some significant functionality to the sim.-Rick

>I hope in FSX you can setup various cockpit "views" on a per>aircraft basis and quickly switch to them... eg Throttle>quadrant, Overhead, Glareshield etc>Yes. In fact most of the default aircraft will have them pre-configured (but you can add as many as you want).

Thats great! Thanks :-jumpy

That's great news, many thanks.Active Camera lets you get out of the cockpit and walk around the aircraft. Will FSX also have this ability?Best regards, Chris

Hey Alex,I know what you mean about the pan view sticking. Try hitting the F12 key when this happens. Works for me!

Not only that... There are two must haves for me Active Camera.1. Head latency in VC.2. Telephoto lens view.IF FSX don't both of these... I'll be waiting for Active Camera update for FSX.Manny

FSX has the head latency feature as far as I know.

Correct.

This version of FS sounds great .... I don't have to buy much payware :-lol

This brings up an interesting question; who owns the idea of an add-on? If the development team takes an idea from and add-on do they owe anything to the developer of that idea? Say they create an interface similar to FSUIPC, do they compensate the developer, or is it just considered normal evoloution of FS and the add-on developers must find new ways to upgrade the sim?I've wondered about this since hearing about the camera views and other enhancements that are similar to current add-on upgrades for FS9, though it doesn't matter to me either way, some add-ons may become obsolete with FSX and I'm curious as to how the add-on community adjusts to this.Ian.

IMHO no compensation because add-ons can always enhanced to be more powerful than FSX. I bet Active Camera release a new pro version with features not available in FSX.Plus I think FSX should "raise the bar" with each release. It's upto the addon developers to then further raise the bar again.
