On those measures, the 1060 is not a step up from the 970 for example.

Perhaps not on paper, but in the real world the 1060 (6GB) seems to be much closer to the 980 and consistently better than the 970. Check the comparative tests from this page onwards: https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_gtx_1060_review,13.html. The same is true for the 1070 and 2060: https://www.guru3d.com/articles_pages/geforce_rtx_2060_review_(founder),12.html. If the older x70 cards are better than the newer xx60 for flight sims, that would seem to be the only genre where they star.

Guess what.. that might just be the case..

Either way, you cannot really suggest that 970 owners should spend the money to go to a 1060, I would hope..

Of course not! I was just saying that I consider the 1060 a better card than the 970. Although the 1660 Ti would be a good upgrade to his 1060, if I was the OP I'd save a little more money and go for an RTX 2060 which would represent a much more significant upgrade and not cost too much more than a 1660 Ti.
