July 24, 200619 yr There is an article over at toms hardware about the next generation of graphics cards. Its a pretty interesting read for any of you getting ready to upgrade once fsx is out.http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/07/21/the...e_of_the_union/
July 25, 200619 yr Commercial Member Interesting.Especially when you consider most household electrical circuits are 10amp circuits. A 1kw power supply will suck around 9amps of power through the circuit. This puppy will cost about 10 cents per hour on, based on a 1kw/hr usage (1kw power supply on for 1 hour). July 26, 200619 yr Yes, the simulator things is gettig so close to real one day, it will cost us the same to run it as the real bird!!
July 26, 200619 yr With that kind of power consumption, we will soon need an APU to power our computers! Imagine those that have a small home cockpit and two or more PCs (like me)!... We'll need a power station of our own!George DorkofikisAthens, Hellas

July 26, 200619 yr >This puppy will cost about 10 cents per hour on, based on a>1kw/hr usage (1kw power supply on for 1 hour). That is only when you are running under full load (doing intense graphic computation). Simply sitting idle on the desktop will consume significantly less power. On an average machine today we might consume around 100W of power idle, but 300W under load and over 200W idle and 450W under load for the latest and greatest. But if I have a 1000W supply I am still using only the required amount of power for my current activity, not the full 1000W.
July 26, 200619 yr Author Good thing I've already started work on assembling my own personal windmill in my backyard :-lol Regards, Ryan Fork
July 26, 200619 yr Good thing I've started assembling my gerbil's wheel hooked to a generator next to my fs rig. I'll probably need more gerbils, though.Rhett Rhett 7800X3D ♣ 96 GB G.Skill Flare ♣ Gigabyte 4090 ♣ Crucial P5 Plus 2TB

I run with all sliders to the right, max/max, vid card AA on... etc. It tends to suck the power when flying. ;)So, while idle the system might not use a lot of power... this is about FS... which presumes we're not sitting idle at the desktop. ;) Ed Wilson Mindstar AviationMy Playland - I69
