It will work.  But you must ALWAYS START THE SIM AT YOUR DEFAULT AIRPORT. You cannot go to another airport from the scenario screen.  I wish you could...but you can't.

Yes you can.

Here is what you need to do: 

After running through the first 9 steps as you described them the next step is to tick the box on the scenario screen that says "UTC Time". Then hit the "Reset to system time" button below it once. Then you can just choose the airport you want to start from and when the scenario is finished loading the system will have the correct current time for that airport.
