FSX Hardware

OKAY, after a really long hiatus, I am back again. Hopefully I will be simming again soon.I have just put together a new compy, here are the specs:Intel Pentium 651 Cedar Mill 3.4GHzGigabyte nVidia GeForce 7900GTX video card2GB of Corsair XMSPro DDR22 Seagate Barracuda 250GB SATA 3GB/s harddrives650-Watt power supplyalong with my previous 21" NEC monitor, SoundBlaster X-Fi platinum sound card and Klipsch ProMedia Ultra 5.1 speakers. Please tell me, taildragger or someone else at MSFS, how will FSX run on my machine?Thanks!!-Jeremy Burchhttp://home.earthlink.net/~dawgfighter/sit...es/swvasig1.gifSWVA4806 http://www.virtualswa.com/home.phpThe Ozark Dogfighter http://forums.avsim.net/images/wedge.gifHappy Flying!BOAC: Heathrow Centre, British Airways Speedbird Flight 723HC: British Airways Speedbird Flight 723, Heathrow Centre, go aheadBOAC: Heathrow Centre, British Airways Speedbird Flight 723 has a message for youHC: British Airways Speedbird Flight 723, Heathrow Centre is ready to copy messageBOAC: Heathrow Centre, British Airways Speedbird Flight 723, message is as follows: Mayday, Mayday, Mayday ....

You would have been better purchasing a Dual Core processor supporting 64 bit then you could run the 64 bit version of Vista. A little more money than that Cedar Mill for the same speed with Dual Core & 64 Bit Support:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?...N82E16819116240Which chipset motherboard did you put in the order?Forgot to mention, the Cedar Mill is better overclocked however than most Dual Cores other than my beloved 805 PD running at 3.85Ghz from stock 2.6Ghz 24/7 for almost 2 months.Carmine http://forums.avsim.net/images/wave.gifhttp://img155.imageshack.us/img155/7118/phoenixtp8mg.jpg

Hi,It will run well, but not under DX10.Hope this helps,Jimhttp://www.hifisim.com/Active Sky V6 Development Team Active Sky V6 Proud SupporterHiFi Beta TeamRadar Contact Supporter: http://www.jdtllc.com/AirSource Member: http://www.air-source.us/FSEconomy Member:http://dot.kelder.net:8080/fseconomy/

Nice.Shame you didn't wait a few weeks for the Core 2 Duo's. They obsolete all previous Intel CPU's. You didn't mention what motherboard your using, but since your chip is a LGA775 chip, there is at least hope you could upgrade to one later. The E6600 is the one I was eyeing myself. They also look to be good to great overclockers as well. :9

To all who asked about the mobo, I can't believe I didn't mention it: It's an Abit AW8D with the Pentium i975 chipset I believe.-Jeremy Burchhttp://home.earthlink.net/~dawgfighter/sit...es/swvasig1.gifSWVA4806 http://www.virtualswa.com/home.phpThe Ozark Dogfighter http://forums.avsim.net/images/wedge.gifHappy Flying!BOAC: Heathrow Centre, British Airways Speedbird Flight 723HC: British Airways Speedbird Flight 723, Heathrow Centre, go aheadBOAC: Heathrow Centre, British Airways Speedbird Flight 723 has a message for youHC: British Airways Speedbird Flight 723, Heathrow Centre is ready to copy messageBOAC: Heathrow Centre, British Airways Speedbird Flight 723, message is as follows: Mayday, Mayday, Mayday ....

Very, very bad timing to build a new system. In about 2 weeks the new Conroe processor line from Intel will hit the streets and will most likely create never-seen-before price cuts for CPUs across the board. You should have held off for now to get a new Conroe 6600 processor when they hit the streets. Your GPU should be great for now, until it'll become a coaster in about 8 months when DX10 hit the streets. How will it run FSX? Noone knows - we'll have to wait and see until FSX is released and I would bet my right hand that tdragger would never comment about any FPS predictions of FSX. But... I think you can be sure that, if you wait for one of Intels new CPUs that it will perform great.Good luck!

I agree that you should have waited a couple of weeks for Core2.

>To all who asked about the mobo, I can't believe I didn't>mention it: It's an Abit AW8D with the Pentium i975 chipset I>believe.>Your probably just a bios update away from being able to use the Core 2 Duo CPUs. Other motherboards using same Intel chipset(975x)like the Asus P5W can run Core 2 Duo's so you should be able to too.Since you just bought your system you could probably wait till around or after Xmas before making a decision. Plus you can always wait and see how FSX runs on the processor you have now.Forgot to mention earlier, shame you picked a Nvidia card when your MB supports ATI's Crossfire for Multiple-GPU's. Not saying the 7900GTX is a bad card choice, its just not the "SLI" compatable with your MB.

While we're on the topic,In terms of upgrading pc for fsx, wOuld it be wise to wait for DX10 hardware to hit the market, rather then upgrading before? How long would one wait untill they could purchase stable dx10 stuff? Tristan

I'm purchasing a new PC next month. Personally, I believe DX10 hardware will be very expensive to start with, and I'm going to wait a year or so before upgrading to a DX10 gfx card and vista. But that's just me...

I will be upgrading my AMD3500 to Core2 Duo 6600 (plus new RAM and motherboard) very soon. Just doing that I get a big performance boast straight away. Then when DX10 video cards hit the market early next year I will upgrade my 6800GT to a DX10 card. Another big performance (and visual) boost.

I decided to be patience for once. ;) I haven't upgraded anything for at least 2 1/2 years: I have an Intel HT 3.0 Mhz CPU and a Radeon 9800 Pro card. (O, no, I forgot that I doubled my mem to 1 Gb 1 1/2 year ago.) It runs most of my games AND FS 2004 quit nicely. Anyway, I haven't bought anything and will not buy anything until DX10 hardware is available. And I might even wait a few months for eventual problems to be resolved. I've actually saved the money I would normally spend on computer stuff, so by the time DX10 hardware and Vista is released I will actually have the money for it! That would never have been the case if I had jumped on every 'hardware-train' the last years. ;) I'm really looking forward to starting up FS X on a brand new superfast DX10 computer. And I don't care if that means I will have to struggle on with my current hardware for a year or so! Looking forward to stuff like this sometimes is more fun than actually getting it... ;)To tell you the truth I would never have been able to do this a few years ago, when I always wanted to have the newest stuff. Seems that indeed wisdom comes with the years... ;) I cannot imagine anyone to upgrade his or hers computer NOW for FS X... That really baffles me! It's useless to upgrade NOW for FS X while it's not released yet and even more because DX10 isn't available yet! I would advice everyone to be patient...

Agreed. While it probably makes sense to think about an upgrade for FSX, which is only a few weeks away, it is way too early to speculate about DX10. It will be at least a year until DX10 will be broadly available and FSX patched to DX10. But it is always useful to plan ahead now to not throw money out of the window.;)Pat

Me too. I am going to try to be patient. :)If I can resist, I will not upgrade anything for about a year. (Presently running AMD 3700+, 2 gigs ram, 7800GT). By then I expect DX10 cards to be out and be halfway reasonably priced, and we'll have a good beat on Core 2 Duo Vs. AMD and we'll have a good beat on what's good with FSX, too. Win-win situation...if only I can resist temptation. :) Man that E6600 Core 2 Duo looks nice.Rhett
