Parachutes? Hang gliders? Jet packs? Flying cars?

Featured Replies

Just wondering if there has been any word on "unusual" craft?Base jumping would be a pretty interesting exercise, and certainly fit in with a mission structure.Or, for that matter... dropping cargo with parachutes.Hang gliders and jetpacks? Well, I had to ask, being in a Pilotwings 64 mode of thinking for the moment. I figure hang gliders are straight forward enough, seeing that the wing on the ultralight in the pics is essentially that. Also, I remember someone making a jetpack add-on, but I'm wondering if the flight dynamics are changed to be able to understand that type of flight. And, last, if so, I'm wondering if flying cars (the purists gasp and huddle and point) are possible to model from a flight-thrust point of view; could we make / model "futuristic cars" which would then go beyond the hacked flight dynamics of something like a Moller Skycar and more like a true vertical-takeoff vehicle?Andrew

They will likely be left to the add-on developers. We can find most of those for FS9 so there would be no reason to think that we won't see the creative and unusual add-ons for FSX as well.Dave________________________________________AMD Athlon 64 4000+ San Diego @ 2.6MhzNForce4-A939 mobo 1G FSB2x1G Cosair XMS Ram on dual channelsSapphire Radeon X1900XT Video Card @ XTX23" Apple Cinema Display @ 1920X1200Soundblaster Live24Saitek Cyborg EVO TrackIR4

Yeah, I just saw a screenie of a giant Lego airplane.

I have a project up my sleeves... :) Just have to convert the mesh... I'm also interested in the Moller Skycar due to a film script I have in development, and I'll look at using it for storyboarding...Anyway... You will most definitely see some cool stuff by 3rd party developers... ;)

I seem to recall that someone is already working on that. Check http://freeflightdesign.com in the News forum, as I thinks that's where I saw it... ;)

>"Funny you should mention the Moller Skycar.">>Too bad the real one is just a hoax ;)>One thing about it...........A flight simulator is the ONLY place I'd attempt to fly one!Just think; total dependance on four operating engines just to stay stable & up right. Very little wing area to support the "car" & passengers in case of engine or fan failure. With virtually no wing for "glide" mode, I'd feel about as safe as being thousands of feet up with one of those James Bond rocket back packs, and no chute when the juice runs out! When anti-gravity paint actually becomes available, then I'll think about a nearly wingless skycar, until then .....it's such an impractable and dangerous joke!!! :-hah L.Adamson

I think I read that the Skycar has been "in development" since the 1960s; even if that's not the case, having read about it on and off for the last 7 or 8 years, you'd think they would have a few more actual "flights" under their belts by now.Gotta love those Blade Runner Spinners, though ;)Andrew

lol that reminds me of a story we ran in the news the other night, clothes that make you invisible just like Harry Potter...That story made me laugh, I still don't know if it was a hoax, but the Associated Press ran with it...Skycars? lol people can't drive in 2 dimensions, do we really need to add a 3rd????????? :-eekCool about the FS version already being made or in development... I'm working on a flying delorean... Not been done in FS before, at least not with a 3d model. The only one so far was a version for FS4 and that was a tweaked cessna...

After all, there IS a working prototype - well it hovers at least! ;)No one spends over $70 MILLION on a "hoax..."Aside from which, it uses EIGHT Wankel rotary engines, not "four" as you stated... ;)
