May 22, 200620 yr Will FSX be pure 32 bit code or will it bridge the gap to 64 bit?I'll guess 32 bit, with later versions (FS11) or maybe a patch to 64 bit code under Vista along with DX10. That would allow for full compatibility with XP and most current PC's.
May 22, 200620 yr Highly unlikely they'd release it as 64 bit... I would of thought that not more than 15% of the expected market are running a fully 64 bit capable system (by which I mean running Win XP x64 on their system - I have an AMD Athlon 64 but that doesn't make me 64 bit capable... I have no 64 bit OS). ckyliu, proud supporter of ViaIntercity.com. i5 12400F, 32GB, RTX4070, more in "About me" on my profile.
May 22, 200620 yr Hi,I seem to remember we've been told that FSX will release as 32 bit, so no 64 bit code.Hope this helps,--Tom GibsonCal Classic Propliner Page: http://www.calclassic.comFreeflight Design Shop: http://www.freeflightdesign.comDrop by! ___x_x_(")_x_x___ Tom Gibson CalClassic Propliner Page
May 23, 200620 yr > Will FSX be pure 32 bit code or will it bridge the gap to 64 bit? They said it will be 32 bit only. But there really should be a 64 bit patch for Vista. If you want to see how 64 bit can make a difference, try installing fs9 on XP 64 bit.
May 23, 200620 yr Since I'll be upgrading to DX10 hardware which means Vista, I'd like to see a 64 bit only version myself. I'm running a high end 64 bit rig, but since no "stable" 64 bit OS and few games that utilize it, there really isn't much of a difference.I do alot of CG art and rendering and that takes a ton of memory and as it stands, most programs hit issues since 32 bit can only utilize up to 4 gig, whereras 64 bit will increase that dramatically. Would love to see what that would do for gaming.Regards, MichaelKDFWhttp://www.calvirair.com/mcpics/mcdcvabanner.jpgCalVirAir International Best, Michael KDFW

May 23, 200620 yr >32-bit on XP, 32-bit on Vista. If you use both that's 64-bit,>right?ok. i tried this the whole night but it didn't work. i still don't know how to boot both systems simultaniously... ;) so i will buy a second processor. any hints? :)ok. enough fun.i am not sure if i understood that right but i have the feeling that you will not support 64bit, right?but where is the problem?i would guess that most libraries you use will also appear as 64bit along with vista. so what about compiling fsx with a 64bit compiler and publish that version via the internet as an update?i am really looking forward to your answer. and sorry in advance if i understood you wrong.
May 23, 200620 yr > but where is the problem? Some manager is too stubborn and won't listen to the users. Start complaining!
May 23, 200620 yr Because the manager's can't grand every user's wishlist for the game! The dicision's already have been made, and i'm sure they thought it over before making the choice between 32 and 64 Bit. This is how it's going to be, 32 Bit, nothing more, nothing lessLive with it, or step over to an other flightsim program
May 23, 200620 yr that's the point.it's not a matter of making a choice.i can easily compile every sourcecode (which doesn't contain assembler at least) to a 32bit or 64bit binary - just by switching a compiler-flag.i think they won't do it because they would have to offer support for another platform which may lead to high costs in comparison to the effort. and secondly it is not said that the sim will profit in any way from running as 64bit. i personally use winxp64 together with fs9 and everything is perfect. unfortunately i can't make any performance-measurements as i don't have the source-code (hehe) and therefor can't recompile it but i'm sure they did.but anyway. why don't they sometimes throw some sugar at the community by releasing, for example a 64bit version for free download later. although it may add nothing to performance i already hear people celebrating the *new* 64-bit-feeling ;) i think valve is very sucessfull with such a strategy. but this is surely more ms-related and has nothing to do with the developers of fsx.i can't wait to fly the santa-claus-mission putting presents into chimneys ;) so keep on working- you are doing a great job, despite all criticisms.
May 23, 200620 yr > How much faster is FS9 under XP 64 bit?The FPS are about the same, but it looks alot smoother. You can read more in the hardware forum.
