That was not the case when I used FSX or P3D and is not the case with XP11 which is now my main sim. I currently rely on add ons for ATC, planning, mapping, weather, traffic and probably 90% of my airplanes. I want to start the sim, have the base sim and all of its functions updated within the sim and go fly. It's too darn complicated now and I sometimes avoid flying because I know that I have not updated all of the add ons in a while. Boy, that is a lot to wish for... As you point out, this has never been the case.. so why would it happen now? AFAIC, I just wish for a stable platform that addon vendors can enhance with all the "goodies" Bert

AFAIC, I just wish for a stable platform that addon vendors can enhance with all the "goodies" It's not impossible - but, maybe it's impractical considering what it might cost. It hasn't happened in the past because it was the past and perhaps it was not the time for such a conceptual change. There is an opportunity now to move flight simming into a new way of thinking and I would hope that we can see it beginning with MSFS2020. Personally, and maybe this is unique to me - I dunno, but on more than one occasion I've considered giving up flight simming (after more than 35 years starting with a Vic-20) because of the complexity of periodic re-installs along with add on management and updates. Nothing else on my PC (games and other simulations, utilities and productivity tools, Photoshop and Lightroom, ham radio stuff, music programs and editing tools) requires as much tweaking and updating as does the flight sim stuff. Do we really want another base platform that requires a bunch of other stuff to make it look good and perform well? That doesn't excite me much - that is already available in other products. Plus, I doubt that would interest the new users that Microsoft would hope to attract. We're used to the way it's always been done. New users will ask: why? I want to see a radical change in how the experience is delivered, maintained and used. That may or may not happen - it's fun to watch and even fun to speculate!
