GTN 750 not showing traffic in X-Plane (resolved)

Featured Replies

Hi, I bought the GTN 750 for X-Plane and it works flawlessly.  But I had no AI traffic like I have in P3D with UTL.

So I installed X-Life traffic into X-Plane 11.35r1 and now I have some nice traffic but the GTN750 doesn't show it like it does in P3D.

In fact the traffic button on the GTN 750 is grayed out in X-Plane 11.35r1.

Is this by design?  I looked in every setting I could find and nowhere will it turn on that traffic button.

Why the difference in X-Plane versus P3D?  If I could get traffic indicated on the GTN in X-Plane I would be very happy.

Many thanks.

Hi,

All settings are clearly documented in the RXP GTN User's Manual.

Have you at least tried a wide search with 'traffic' keyword in the PDF file maybe?

Yes, not one hit.

I get 4...

Are you sure you're looking in the RXP GTN User's Manual ? (not the Garmin one).

Yes, the name of the PDF is “Reality XP GTN User’s Manual (XPlane)

I have discovered how to get it to work.

Plugins > Reality XP GTN > GTN 750 1 > Settings > Use Ryan TCAD

Now I get the Traffic button and Menu, select Traffic, I have planes flying around but still not seeing them on the GTN 😞

I was messing with the GTN settings in XP and I don’t remember what I did but now I have traffic and the aural warning.  Excellent!

Is it possible to turn these off? I have searched the manual, nothing there. Thanks.

@johnbla Hi, it is documented in the manual as well...

Please let us know if the User's Manual "Settings" chapter is appropriately named because it seems both of you have had trouble making the connection between something you want to adjust (a setting) and the chapter named "Settings" which is supposed to describe the settings.

Hello RXP and thanks for your support, first I want to say this is an excellent rendition of the GTN 750!

I will have to get back to you later on this as I have to go out soon.

Ok, I’m running XP right now and try as I might with the settings I simply cannot get traffic to be displayed on the GTN.  I can access the traffic page but it’s not showing traffic like it did yesterday.

I really don’t remember how I got it to work so any help would be appreciated because these menus are very confusing.  The f1 750 for P3D doesn’t have these problems.

I mean, what do I choose?  North American Garmin, Worldwide Jeppesen?  I have RyanTCAD ticked, Use Simulator AI Traffic Count is ticked.

I WISH I had Takes some screenshots of yesterday’s settings because I do NOT like the way they change from session to session, I wish they were persistent between sim sessions.

So please tell me exactly what boxes need to be ticked in order to get AI traffic on the GTN like I had yesterday, and please can you make it persistent between session and planes?

Hi,

first: P3D and XP11 traffic system is entirely different.

The former is an opaque container of aircraft for which the SDK provides functions. These permit gauges to get the list of nearby aircraft and read their state (speed, altitude etc...)

The latter is an open array of aircraft, for which the SDK provides limites pos/alt only datarefs. Any plugin can furthermore overwrite the array slots regardless of the XP11 settings.

Therefore, to properly get the AI traffic, you need to:

  1. Enable the TCAD (obvioulsy)
  2. Make sure the GTN receives N aircrafts (and not 0).

Point #2 depends on the traffic source, whether it is internal (XPL) or injected (plugin), because the only # of aircraft known is the one from XPlane internal with a "Get # of AI aircraft currently simulated" SDK function. For injected traffic there is no SDK function therefore disabling "Use Simulator AI Count" tells the GTN to use all the available 19 slots (and it then filters out with some heuristics to determine which slots are not used).

As for persistent settings, they are already otherwise it would make very it a very difficult for our customers. Are you sure the folder where is your aircraft has 'write' access permissions for your Windows user account?

Thanks but please define #2 “receives N aircraft,” I don’t understand this.

The only way I could get this to work is by deselecting “Use Simulator AI Traffic Count”.

Yes, all my folders on my PC have write access permissions.  All of them, I went out of my way to do this.

And which is the best to use North America (Garmin) or Jeppesen?

I think it is persistent, I have to word not allowed it down and restart because this GTN just caused XP to freeze, I had to use Task Manager to shut down XP and went to Even Viewer and saw that the GTN caused a crash.  Unfortunately I didn’t save the log.

Like I've said! This is because the XP11 SDK is an open area for 3rd party plugins to inject their own traffic data, that is to simply overwrite the available 19 slots of traffic data. When they do, the number of aircraft injected can't be known via the SDK, therefore, you have to tell the GTN to use all that is potentially available.

As for DB, do you fly in North Am or do you fly elsewhere? I think that gives the answer to your question.

As for the crash you can use this:

https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html

I'd appreciate you let me know the crash report data if this is a GTN simulator.exe crash.

Hi Jean-Luc, first of all you’re assuming a body of knowledge I simply do not have.  I was a real-world aircraft technician and private pilot.  I have no idea what an SDK is, what it does, or why it’s even needed.

I fly all over the world, ONLY in Orbx scenery, I have no other third party stuff.

As for app crash, I really don’t want to do this, if it crashes again I can send with Event Viewer log.  I keep my PC to a bare minimum, I don’t even use it for email or surfing, nor do I use it for any other programs but P3D and X-Plane.  So, sorry, I don’t want another app.

I got it to work by trial and error then took screenshots of all the settings.  This is when it crashed, when I was changing settings.

Best regards.
