That'll be a short speculation session, because I can tell you right now that it won't look like that ;) And I know I'm right. No, it's not a superiority complex on my part .. it's just that there is no way FSX can afford to waste polygons and texture resolution on that kind of ground detail. You'll still have trees made out of criss-crossed 2D bitmaps and I seriously doubt they'll react (as in, bend and bob) realisticly to your airplane plowing through them (not that your aircraft SHOULD be doing that in the first place).Far Cry can afford this kind of detail because the player is limited to moving on one island and at slow speeds. The engine also does not have to worry about the kind of visibility distances we need in FS9 and FSX to not feel like we're flying through a perpetual haze.Yes, FSX will look better than FS9.No, it will not look like the Crytek Engine. My 0.2 :) EDIT:Make that 0.02. I'm a cheapskate ;)

WOW M A M A!Incredible none-the-less

Wow. Adding to an already great engine this is going to be superb. The ground textures in the FS series have always been a sore point with me. Ugly would be fair to describe them. Even putting in replacement textures doesn't cure the sterile nature of them. Where an improvement in ground level graphics is most necessary would be in slow and low GA flying. Flying into remote lakes and camps etc. If the FS series continues I'm sure some of these realism aspects will be incorporated.

>Heres a preview of the awesome new Far Cry engine with>DirectX 10. Now we can speculate if FSX will look like this.>>http://digg.com/gaming/New_Far_Cry_with_DirectX_10_preview>>John.Great preview! Thanks for the link.I wonder who's claiming this is Direct X 10 though. All that stuff is available through DX 9.Notice how they're moving closer to FS stuff? Like a day night cycle, with real time lighting effects? And volumetric clouds? FSX will not look like Far Cry. But I think everybody can see where we're (the industry) headed. Exciting times!Cheers,Jason

Jason,Please correct me if I'm wrong here, but so far we haven't seen anything in the FSX pics that can't or isn't already being done with PixelShader V3.0 (DX9) including somethings we haven't seen in the pics like heatwave effects, soft partical effects etc...Would this perhaps indicate that the Vista/DX10 requirement would be for other aspects of the game but not really required for the graphics end? This might clear up the Hardware concerns some have as GF6/GF7 and all ATI-X1000 series cards support shadder V3.0

Whether all effects are available on all configurations is another story. Everything that has been released so far (other than the demo at CES) was shot using fairly standard hardware (my machine), which is a 2.4 Ghz box with a gig of ram and a 256 Mb vid card (can't remember what model, but it's a year and a half old or so). That aint a recommendation of any hardware, other than I believe FSX will blow FS2004 out of the water visually with DX9 *OR* DX10. That being said, newer features are more likely (and likely to be more impressive) with newer software/hardware combos.Cheers,Jason

Holeykashmoley! You get that detailed ground textures and that massive amount of autogen with those specs? Now I'm impressed!!! Do you remember frame rates (if you can share this info)?Christian

It looks great. When i get bored of FS9 i sometimes play Farcry, and everytime i load it up im amazed how great it looks.

The physics in that video are being done by the AGEA addon card though, not by the CPU... If FS were to support that card, maybe we could get stuff like this.
