Notifications for traffic that isn't there

Featured Replies

I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Several times per flight atc will notify me of traffic at x o'clock, y miles. But it isn't there. It's not just that I'm not seeing it -It's not on TCAS either.

Most of the time traffic notifications are correct. This only happens in maybe 10% of alerts. I use AIG. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?

What distance do you have your AI Traffic notifications set to in P2A?  Could be you could reduce that and avoid the situation of getting alerts for aircraft that aren't a factor.

It's possible that your TCAS range is different or there are some filters on it that prevent it from seeing an aircraft that P2A sees.  P2A "sees" all AI Traffic that is reported via FSUIPC, which by default has a limit of 80NM, I believe.

I keep my alert settings to 6NM distance and 2000 ft vertical separation to reduce the number of alerts, but having a greater distance or vertical separation, will give you more alerts.

One example was 11 o'clock at 8 miles at my altitude. But my TCAS was looking out to 20nm and didn't see the plane either.

Check your TCAS program. P2A will be receiving the list of nearby traffic. It can't (or won't be! ;-)) inventing ghost craft on its own accord!

Of course, it maybe that you are running a traffic limiter (like the one in FSUIPC) which deletes AI to abide by a limit. If so, could it be that by the time the warning was spoken the aircraft was deleted?

Programs like EFB2 and FS-FlightControl show AI traffic on a moving map. Do you have either of those to cross-check with?

No, I don't have either of those. The TCAS in question was in the PMDG 747-8f. The FSUIPC thing is interesting though - is that enabled by default? If so, that would explain things.

No, the limiter is off by default.
