CTD when second popup is opened (resolved) (video card HW)

Featured Replies

Having a weird issue with P3D and GTN popups.  This appears to only happen on planes with 750 and 650.  Example A2A C182, Realair Turbine Duke.

When I open the 2d popup of the 750, it shows fine.  If I then popup the 650 I get a CTD with P3D.exe not responding.  I can do the inverse and have the crash as well.  Open 650 popup fine then 750 popup freezes p3d and CTD.

All GTN's are up to date.

Hi Ryan,

can you please post the crash report details as shown when using this tool:

https://www.nirsoft.net/utils/app_crash_view.html

Here are some specific logs from various exe's when the crash happened.  You can see the four starting with xp.exe that crashed within seconds and a couple min later I shutdown my PC.  Also a screenshot to show sequence of events.

Thank you Ryan, these reports are invaluable to find out the issue.

Have you tried looking into the files? They all point to your Nvidia Driver and/or Nvidia hardware.

Have you recently updated your drivers? if so you might want to roll back.

I did update them about 3 weeks ago.  Because I was having issues with Battlefield 1 and 4.....seems like XP doesn't like the new ones.  Ooops I just realized my original question was about P3D and I responded with XP info haha.  Maybe something between nvidia drivers and the GTN's just aren't working...since I'm having issues in P3D and XP both with the GTN's.

Downloaded the new updates today or both P3D and XP11 GNS and GTN's.  I did the same flight as before and am still getting the CTD.  At least this time XP11 gave me an error reporting box and I can still use windows10.  I was manipulating the 2D popup via right click function and resizing the GTN750 window when the CTD in XP11 occured.  I'm linking my XP11 log if that helps any.  I'm not ruling out video card issues but still looking into that.

I just tried the initial issue on the P3D v4 side of things.  I can now open the second popup without a CTD but it is blank.  The GTN 650 bezel shows but screen is blank.

Hi Ryan,

you got a number of issues in your log files which are not related to RXP at all.

for example:

B:\X-Plane 11/Resources/plugins/PythonInterface/64/win.xpl : Error Code = 126 : The specified module could not be found.
B:\X-Plane 11/Resources/plugins/PythonInterface/win.xpl : Error Code = 193 : %1 is not a valid Win32 application.

or this:

But right before the crash (and also happening elsewhere before in the log file):

0:18:09.005 W/REN: Setting reno/use_detail_textures from a plugin - This is slow and might not be supported in the future!

These last 2 items are directly related to 'tweaking' your video card.

Can you confirm you can repro the same problem just using the default Baron 58?

  • Author

I'm not tweaking the card at all though..  it's a GTX 980 FTW (which I believe means factory overclocked).

From my experience there are always errors with lua scripts and XP11.  I'm not sure on the xjet thing... I think that it AFL king air's updater manager.

Why not use the atmosphere scripts?  What is wrong there?

I've not tried the default baron (I will try soon) but I have tried other GTN XP11 addons and they all eventually CTD while using the GTN's...and the crashes appear to happen more quickly with 2d popups.

The only comparison I have is that a few updates ago (maybe 2 weeks ago) the gauges were working perfectly.  I guess it could be the drivers...  Rob had made a post for me in the xp11 forums about how to do a clean install in safe mode with some app called 'DDU'  I haven't time to try that yet.

EDIT:  Yes I just opened a GTN 750 in the default Baron and XP11 CTD.  Looks like some sort of DX crash....video related of course...hmmmm.

Yes it is.

I'm nearly certain this is the case given your initial post.

Because a few weeks ago another customer was using similar plugins, if not the same, and once removed gone were the CTD...

No you are not, the scripts are doing instead...

0:18:09.005 W/REN: Setting reno/use_bump_maps from a plugin - This is slow and might not be supported in the future!
0:18:09.005 W/REN: Setting reno/use_detail_textures from a plugin - This is slow and might not be supported in the future!

Really, you might want to start cleaning up the mess first and see how it goes instead?

What about disabling all your plugins but GTN and compare if there is a conflict there? I'd assume if this is an inherent issue in the GTN the forum would be flooded reporting the same issue in a more widespread manner.

I had all of this stuff installed and the GTNs were working before.  I'll pursue the nvidia drivers sometime.

I concur this is most likely the Nvidia drivers, this is why I've ironed out issues with your X-Plane setup which are having a direct link with the video card first and foremost. It may be possible it used to work before 'at the 'edge' and the latest drivers and/or the latest X-Plane update are just pushing over the limit. Regardless, you do have issues with your X-Plane installation and you are using scripts and/or items which don't seem entirely compatible or designed for the version of X-Plane you are running, and just for this, it is worth cleaning them up.

Ryan, are you having better success with the latest v2.5.20.2?

I've done three things so far that have seemed to stop the crashes.  I'm not positive yet as I've not had enough time to test.  But I've been able to fly a complete PilotEdge flight without any XP11 crashes.

1) I've run the DDS driver cleaner program recommended by @Rob_Ainscough - I've updated to the very latest GTX 980 drivers

2) I've changed my CMOS battery

3) I've installed and run upon Windows startup, a copy of EVGA's Precision X1 software.  For some reason it seemed my GTX 980 clock speed was set higher than even the factory overclock(my card is the 980 FTW version).  So I've lowered this to the FTW base clock shown on the nvidia site.

XP11 hasn't crashed since, and neither has BF4 or P3D.

I almost want to disable the EVGA software just for a test... I think the video card clock was the biggest issue.  I'm not sure why it was set so high.  I never set it that way.

This is most likely. Thank you for sharing the resolution too as this may benefit other customers searching for answers in the forum (yes I know, there are some customers using the 'search' button from time to time!)

BF4

One of my fav, although I spend more time on BFV nowadays! (PS4, not PC).
